Much better than the ole cement block in more ways than one
Not saying mine is, first thing that came to mind that most might have laying around... I have an old metal gear that my dad picked up from the mill 30 years ago and had his buddy weld an eye bolt on. The other is concrete, but moulded with an eye bolt. I got the idea from a 12' jon boat that I was perch fishing on, with some duud on the Muddy Creek section of Arthur...
When I worked at a steelmill 30 yrs. ago I would weld a couple pieces ov angle iron together, some I'd weld a eye bolt & some would already have a hole big enough for a rope to tie off. Purdy sure that boat is 13' 7.25" long not a 12'er & is not a jon boat it is a antique classic 1949 son. Never even ever owned a cement anchor you can even ask my wife. Did mention about a coffee can cement anchor though after my buddy lost several ov my store bought anchors in the Muddy Creek Muck. Buy mine at the Flea Market & yard sales from now on. Was fishin' a sm. lake over in Hooker last yr. from a sm. allum. boat & my buddie had one ov them thar fondation blocks you noe the ones with 3 holes in 'em we droped it over board into a 40' drop off/ never again will I ever do that again Glad to see you r feeling better Edward, If you are up this way I have one ov them there steel swivel anchors with a piece ov chain attached that you can have. www.texasfishingforum.com www.bassboatcentral.com It was a cold one out there this night/morning . crappy

E great looking boat. I saved up for about 6 months and bought a Hummingbird 898C HD DI. It is awsome. Takes a while to learn how to use but when the action is slow thats the best time to play around with it. With the down and side immage it's like you can see the bottom with out any water in the way. The nav chip is great when night fishing cause you can mark all the stumps during the day and aviod them at night and future trips. You can also mark and store all your tracks and run the hot spots over and over and stay withing 3' of where you caught fish. You can also load in the numbers for underwater structure and cribs and go right to them. Good luck with her you will enjoy it. Also enjoy the company of your dad. You will remember these days when you get older. Tight lines and good luck.

If your fishfinder still reads the depth accurately thats what you'll be using it for about 90% of the time so save your cash. Lake Erie is do-able on that boat on the right days, buddy up with someone that has done it a lot and don't stray too far from them. You'll figure out what additional gear you need beyond the basics such as safety equipment as you go along. Gain confidence in the boat by running it for a couple of years around here before you attempt a trip to the big pond. Don't go out if you having problems with the main motor not starting or if your chasing electrical gremlins, it wouldn't be good if you experience something when you have to get off the lake. I've been 10-12 miles off on the right days in a comparable sized boat and loaded up on the eyes. Don't be in a big hurry to get up there as theres a good bit of opportunity for good fishing around here most of the year. I've seen morons with 30 footers that I'd swear were not going to be back at the ramp by evening on that lake. Crawl before you walk, walk before you run and run before you fly. Enjoy your new ride...your gonna be spending some serious cash over the next few decades if you get hooked on boatin' B O A T stands for bust out another thousand!!

I guess for some that may be. However I have found that with the use of my Hummingbird I tend to do a lot more than just use the depth finder. I am a big fan of trolling. I find that sometimes fish may only strike at 2 mph and other times they may only strike at 2.6 mph. So it really comes in handy for that. Like I said before if you like to troll Pymie at night it's really nice to know where the stumps are. It would really suck running your new rig into one of them. It really helps out with that. I also like to fish structure, so finding the structure is key for me. It's also nice to know exactly where the ledges are. Another nice feature. So I guess for some just knowing the depth is fine. For me my unit has put a lot more fish in the boat. Or I just got a lot more lucky since I got it. Who knows.

I thought yours was one, maybe we just talked about making one. I made mine a few days after we went out. I was trying to get away with one anchor, but saw how nice it was with two when we went out. Sorry about shorting the 1' - 7.25" too! Ed - Congrats on the monster cats, although doesn't sound like they landed, but still sounds like fun. The 50HP is much more enjoyable driving than the lower HP. Fishing restricted lakes, to me, is much more enjoyable than ski boats and jet skis wizzing around all day while trying to fish.
