Cabela's "Fish for Millions"....just a big marketing ploy?

THERE'S A MILLION DOLLAR FISH OUT THERE....YOU COULD CATCH IT!

Honestly I think it's a big scam to steal your information to sell to marketing companies. Lets look at the rules:

  • $1,000,000 - If the Grand Prize Fish is caught and logged in the first ten fish by any participant in the contest - subject to verification, see Official Rules for complete details
  • $100,000 - If the Grand Prize Fish is caught and logged 11th through 100th by any participant in the contest - subject to verification, see Official Rules for complete details
  • $10,000 - If the Grand Prize Fish is caught and logged 101st through 1,500th by any participant in the contest - subject to verification, see Official Rules for complete details
So essentially to win any real money, the grand prize fish has to be caught within the first 100 entries. Of course the million dollar prize can only be collected if the fish is caught within the first 10 entires, and how do we even know theres a fish with a $1 mil tag out there? 1,500 fish spread out thru 12 different bodies of water in PA, mostly lakes. Looks like the locations in SWPA include Pine creek, Lake Arthur and Keystone Lake.

Anybody catch any tagged fish last year? Annoys me they don't put any in the rivers. Yea Pine Creek flows into the Allegheny, but if they're putting the tags on trout I doubt you're going find any in the river. I did register but used mostly fake information. Seems like a big scam to me.

    Probably a marketing scam.

Emsworth Pool has tagged fish for the river fishermen and The "Pine Creek" you mentioned is not the one in Allegheny county.

I believe that the million dollars is paid out $20,000/year for 50 years!!!!

Is it a "marketing scheme"?  YES! That's what Corporate marketing departments & independent marketing agencies do. The latter almost certainly being who's actually running the "contest",  under the Cabela's banner & in their behalf.  Is it "legit"? YES absolutely. There are laws regulating such contests, and many watchdogs ( within & outside the Govt. ) keeping an eye on large ones such as this. Cabela's would not allow their name to be attached, if it were not legit. Will anyone win the Mil or the "grand" prize? Very VERY unlikely. Rest assured they have carefully calculated the odds, and they are astronomically in their favor. Will Cabela's  EVER payout either of the top two prizes? Absolutely not. Even IF someone actually wins. They pay an substantial insurance premium up front to insure against a pay out. IF someone should actually win, it will be the insurance carrier that "pays out" not Cabela's. Said insurance company will be meticulous beyond belief in verifying that all rules ( TO the letter ) were followed, and any claim legitimate before paying out. So Skee, any false, or misleading information you provided in registering. Made having registered an even bigger waste of your time. They will go to the extreme in validating a claim. Including polygraphs. and interviewing friends, family, and neighbors.

Whoa good info heh. Still wondering if anyone on here has caught a tagged fish before and attempted to claim a prize. A friend of a friend caught one last year but said the tag was from a previous year.
