What's with the siding John? Just curious as I used to be involved in that sort of thing in my younger years.

the pouring rain garden adventure is over for today.. 2/3rds of it is complete and that will have to do until sunny weather comes around again, someday..
Thoughts towards the house wrap as I need to put siding on my addition, again someday (I'm REAL SLOWWWW )
I see every new construction has it.. My addition is all rough cut lumber board & batten and I'm a little concerned it may not be able to breath thus trapping moisture and rotting the wood.. We insulated the walls well with R-19 ..
Thoughts ?

under my current siding I found 30# felt like you would use on your roof. I will leave it on for now becouse of the rain then tear it off spray the whole house with a termite killer/detourer and wrap it in tyvek. Tuna is your siding going over the board and batton? I also am a firm believer in the house wrap, although at work we just used this new to us product called greenboard I believe. Its basically tounge and grove plywood with a green surface coat of something then you tape all seams with this super sticky tape, no housewrap. we will see how it works, have seen alot of new construction using it.

I was kinda short planning about going over the B&B with siding.. If that was to be the case then Id have to put some sort of filler in between each board, possibly the cheapest styrofoam cut to fit ?
The real deal would be to pull the battens off and sheath it with osb ? but that seems way costly for a 60' X 38' addition

siding is pretty cheap, the highest quality is about 200$ for a 2 square bundle. With all the insulation on the inside Id tear the battons off one side at a time and resheath and side as the cash flow allows.

This project I started 2 years ago, started out as a place to put my sled, riding mower and snow blower along with other garding tools. Then I put the second floor on as a fort for the kid, anyways 2 years later and 13k its done, except for the sheetrock in the fort.

John, for 13k that better have a bathroom in it!!!

No, its no frikkin joke, building materials in the past five years have gotten way out of hand... even osb in 7/16 is like ten bucks a sheet... outrageous!!!

I need something like that to park my ATV and hunt from the second floor.  If you could put that puppy on a flatbed so I could move it from field to field I would be one happy hunter.  Solar panels for the refrig, TV, stove and heater would be nice also.

OK guys, sitting in a condo waiting for a deer to wander by is NOT hunting,it is deer shooting.Get down on your feet, keep the wind in your face, and sneak around the swamps and ridges, then your hunting!Don't even get me started on shooting deer on a food plot from a house on stilts like those southern rednecks do.They blast the deer when it comes in to eat the food that the "hunter" plants then slap each other on the back like they did something great LMAO!
That greenboard is a very good system and is being used quite a bit,it did n't exist when I was still active.
Rich, how much space is between the boards, could you fill the void with expanding foam, scrape flush, then cover with wrap, then siding? If that works it'll be tight and breath through the wrap.I'm assuming you used faced insulation to keep the moisture out of the wall cavaties.

Not  fishing , but an adventure about fishing gear.  I am off to an auction with a TON of new fishing gear.   All lures of every shape, from jigs to trolling flashers to ice fishing .   It is split in lots so I may bid on a few .

Clint, Sounds as if you can pick up nice deals, good luck.
Jack,  I was just being facetious.  I prefer to post up and hope that my choice is rewarded.  To me hunting is much like fishing, knowing the land or water is the key to success.

Re:Summer time fishing adventures 2013/06/08 11:29:31 (permalink)
first off, John that looks KILLER man !!! Nice that you turned it into a playhouse for the kids but if it were in my yard it would be a man cave shootin shack out my back yard..

Jack, I'm all about putting meat on the table.. Racks, while they are nice to look at , don't mean all that much to me.. We harvested 4 deer last year, 2 were for my family and the last of it is GONE !!
Only thing I ask of the property I hunt is "leave some small racks and they have to have meat on the ones we shoot"
All my life I walked the woods, braved the elements and sat in an unsheltered tree stand.. Last year I was glad to sit in the little comfort of my ice shanty while hunting when things got nasty.. I would have no problem sitting in a "shooting shack" ..
I do agree though, some of those tv shows are a little over the top and baiting is not an option for me..

Clint,
Sounds fantastic and hope you find some good deals..
I bought an entire sporting store out a few years ago, Taylor & Vadney.. They were getting out of the fly dept ,I'm still pretty well stocked..

Well I am home and I picked up a TON of ice fishing Jigs.   I got a lot of around 300 unopened items for $150.      It was a whole store for sale, it had closed in the 90's . Boxes of 50 Rapellas were going for between $100 and $140,   problem was you had to buy 4 boxes at a time so even though it was well worth the money I did not have close to $600 bucks or the ambition to resell them.   Everything from lake  spoons to Mepps spinners to whatever.   Over 15000  lures were sold.  Will post some pics  tomorrow of what I got and   See what you guys think.

Here is the lot of ice fishing jigs I got.   326 packages, each one marked at no less than .99 cents.   (Shop closed in the 90's)   Best bang for the buck was the jigging spoons which run 3 to 5$  apiece.   There are 50 of them.     Now to get some ice and get some of these.

Oh yea.   Some of these will not be limited to winter use.     Too bad I don't feel the urge to get out today.   12 hours on my feet yesterday did me in.

Survived night 1 and went to a little bass pond in the Catskills .
With pretty much zero sleep we put in 6 hrs chucking frogs for bass and tiny jigs for pannies
. The catching was ok the quality of fish was less then. A bunch of small lmb came to the rubber worm , lots of snot rockets came to the frog and a few small gills and crappies on the jigs. Only 2 picture worthy pannies and all went back , just not enough meat on them to bother with.
Fun day but now it will be a tough night 2 for sure.

Clint , I'm sure some of those spoons would be great for lakers and the jigs on the perch.
You'll have to come venture down for some adk ice this year :)

If I owned a shop I would not have time to fish       Nice pans RJ.  I know the feeling last 3 trips from Oneida barely got me 1 meal combined.  Cleaning 3 fish is kind not even worth of dulling the knife

Finally got to get out this morning, after the storm I thought we would smack them.

first troll hit this guy

couldnt get another bite for about two hours, moved around a bit and picked up some silvers. Sky got ugly but didnt rain.

made a big move and ran west to a spot I go to when its slow and hit this guy.

i missed two good bites and steve missed one , two keepers a 20 and 18, good to get out though.
