Howdy, from SW Ohio

New guy here, checkin in to say hello.  From the Dayton, Ohio area.  Mostly a duck hunter but when it's not duck season I love fishin.  Dead set on catchin a Steelhead on my new Fly rod.  Once I get that done, I'm gonna focus on catching a musky on a fly.  Got a few friends that are gonna show me the ropes on jig fishin, spinner rigs, and even some trolling techniques for Erie Walleyes.

Welcome to the Thunderdome. Steelies on a fly rod is a rush, man. Lots of good advice on this forum, so tune in every so often and you'll be rippin' em soon enough. Here's a start:

I have caught a few steelhead years (2002) ago on a jig and maggot.  In 2006 my brother took me out and I landed a few with his Fly rod.  I'm on a quest to catch one without him.  He is so smooth with his casting etc.  Dang, I hate when my brother is better than me at something.....hehehe

Here is a pic of what may be the smallest white bass ever caught with a hook.  It was a great triumph for a rookie fly fisherman and an old 5wt.   Too much rod for this little dude, but it was the first of many WB, and the species I was targeting.  Any excuse to enjoy a cigar, I always say!

WARNING - once you do land one on your own - with one of your own tied on - all bets are off...You'll be heading north every chance you get like the rest of us crazy loons on here...good adivse on here.

Im sure if you offered up some duck feathers - you'll get plenty of help...ha ha

How is the duck hunting over that way?  Do you hunt the "big" river?  I spent some time down in Chilicothe - saw pintails and lots of teal - I would love to get a crack at a pintail.

Get your wood duck feather order in now.......lol

My network of buddies killed just over 300 ducks on public water......no lie!

I hooked a really nice steel head today on the Chagrin. It jumped twice and made few nice runs before it broke off. Not sure if my knot failed or my 2x Tippett was not up to the task. Ether way to was awesome to see that fish come out of the water. I'm gonna try it again right after sunrise before it's back to work.

Thanks for the warm welcome.
