Mouth of Pigeon
Been hitting up the mouth of pigeon creek lately with no success, any tips? I am truly looking for anything that bites. Been throwing a lot of mr twisters in different colors. Has it just been to cold, or do I need to find a different bait? No where around to get minnows or I would buy some, so I either have artificial or worms I can fish with.

what a name for a creek.... Im def not a river vet but ive had some success near the rivers with jointed rapalas.. but if that creek gets smallies i love usin panther martins.. I like the way they drag in the water and makes smallies go crazy.. gold blade with the black body yellow dots... thats my go to bait and seems to never fail.. works good for steelies too!

Chris don't know what time of the day you have been hitting the creek but my guess is that with the cold water bass will usually respond to a little warmer water so try fishing late morning to mid afternoon when the water temp my go up by a degree or two. Also try and fish a little to the left or right(20-30 feet) of the actual creek mouth due to all the sediment directly in fromt of the creek mouth. My favorite color for the river is chartruese(curlytail) three inches on a quarter ounce(or even less) jig head. Remember the water is still very cold and the fish are not as agressive as later in the year. Low and slow now.

If you're going for bass in these conditions, small crankbaits and tube jigs fished slowly are going to be effective. I haven't fished that for years, but when I did it was a slow moving mud hole. Good for catfish, carp and the occasional sauger, rock bass or crappie. People even picked up a few trout that washed down when they were stocking in Bentleyville. Last I checked live minnows were available at Gander Mountain in Washington, Smith's Tackle at 308 Brownlee Road in Eighty Four, and in the tobacco shop on the side of the Save-A-Lot on 88 in Fredericktown. It's still probably best to get your own minnows with a seine or minnow trap. Even throwing out a trap while you fish in Pigeon will probably get you a few.

I live about 5 minutes away from there, if that, going to one of those places is out of the way for me. I normally don't spend over an hour there so throwing a minnow trap out isn't going to do me much good, but I guess it can't hurt to throw one out for 30 or so minutes and see if I can get any to use.

I think Harmons closed, I used to go there but last time I went nothing. Bcain, from my knowledge you can expect to catch just about anything.

I haven't fished there in probably 15 years when I was a teenager. My buddy caught a smallmouth behind Cox's IGA store on believe it or not corn. He was trying to catch the carp and suckers but was shocked when he pulled in that smallmouth. It was nice sized one.
