This doesn't feel like crappie weather. Just crappy weather.

Put the boat on and fished there last Tuesday, not my best day on that lake! The wind was awful and made being out there in the boat no fun at all.
Couldn't get on the fish either. Just couldn't find them that day. Only caught  1 old catfish.
Oh well, it'll get better. I love fishing crooked, usually a place I can take my kids and feel almost guaranteed to catch some fish.

Stopped by the lake on Thursday of last week, a couple people fishing the outflow. I am new to the area and decided to venture down to the lake by scaling the hills to fish some down trees. Tried for an hour with no luck. Lake looks great though, can't wait to get my boat out on it.

I'll be shore fishing it for crappie tomorrow morning, I'll try and throw a report out to let people know what's going on. Last time I was there was the 13th it was super high and muddy. Hoping to hit into a few schools.

    Anyone else fishing it lately?

I'd like to make a trip to the outflow soon.  Anyone know how the fishing is?

Men and fish are alike. They both get into trouble when they open their mouths.

    SW Region report

Fishing and Boating Report – April 24, 2013 Armstrong County
Over the weekend trout were being caught with minnows in Buffalo Creek and Cowanshannock Creek.
Crappies measuring up to 10 inches are biting at the outflow at Crooked Creek Lake.
Smallmouth bass have been active near the Allegheny River locks.

Seems like it's turning for the better FINALLY.

Fished  Saturday from 7 AM till 11:30 AM from shore on the dam side, opposite side of the beach. All the wooded structure looked great for crappie, but I only managed 5 10" keepers and 2 9.5" gills, along with a whole slew of smaller gills 40+ that were released.  I can't wait to fish it by boat, the lake looks very promising.

Also When reeling in a gill a huge large mouth chased it in and jumped clear out of the water a few feet in front of me, that was definitely a cool site.

Some other things I noticed: The lake is definitely to small to be unlimited horsepower. Very few boats out until mid morning then a few bass guys got on the lake. Then there was one meathead in a pontoon just ripping his toon in circles at full throttle, doing nothing but causing a lot of ruckus and acting like a jackhole. But hey, to each their own.

    Anyone else doing any good?

the horsepower limit has more to do with depth than size.

Yes I guess that's what it would be. It is quite the challange, but a decent workout at that lol. I figured without the boat ready it would offer up some good fishing, rather then just the area around the beach. I should have gave the outflow a shot after the good report in the paper.

No Matter the depth I still find it ridiculous to watch people go full throttle for 30 seconds and come to a sudden halt....just seems silly for a lake that small to be unlimited, especially when pleasure boaters just go wild with limited space...but that's just my opinion

What makes it so bad for shorefishing is that there is very little shore access on the lake & when those boaters come through too fast the waves roll down the shoreline & knock your minnow bucket over & wash it up on shore. Then the waves leave a mud line out about 15-20' from shore.Even though there is a year round no wake zone from the beach to the debries boom, very few people honor it until around Memorial day when the park puts in the marker bouys.Even when the boats hug the side that you were fishing, if they go too fast, the waves still screw up the shore fishermen. I just think that most of them don't realize that. Although there are some jerks that do  it for laughs.  sam

Fished Crooked with my boy yesterday. We had a blast! We caught fish all day long. Corban caught a nice sized chanel cat and I caught my best crappie to date 14.5 "  We came home with 22 fish most over 10.5"

A friend and I took our 9 y.o. boys to Shenango yesterday, and other than my son's 13 incher, all we got were dinks.  Looks like we shoulda saved some time and gas money and stayed closer to home.

I went Friday with my boy again. Couldn't find the Crappie it was night & day different from our last trip. But we did get into the bluegills. Corban must have caught 100 of them on an orange jig head and a chartreuse gulp minnow. He was giving me pointers at one point. :)

Haha right on, always good to see the youngins tear it up. Went today with friends and searched high and low while playin with a new finder. Musta got 30 crappie but only 3 over 9 inches, the biggest a friend got was 13.5". Lots of the small ones in small schools suspended in open water and mixed sizes at random on shore wood. Got 4 nice cats working shore wood also and a few nice gills. Saw a dozen or so boats out but they were picking up small ones also with a few keepers

got out again Saturday morning for a few hours, tons of boats by the time I left....slammed the largemouth on a scatter raps at sun up, largest was 18 inch, also caught a 17 inch channel on the scatter. After that I tried for some crappie, the bite was good but all undersized.

    fun times.
