This has been the deadest Yough thread I think I've ever witnessed. Nobody fishing that river ? Anybody ? Trout were still on the past weekend in the Wickhaven area. 1 Bass. My guess is that the Bass will be on now woth the 90 degree weather upcoming.

If you have Facebook, there is a group called Smallies on the Yough. I seen he posted today catching a nice drum. Said with the color, he thought he had a nice smallie.

Looks like I'll have to get my crayfish traps going. It takes a good while to collect enough crayfish that are too big for the various basses to steal. As an added benefit, the big crays keep the baby drum away.

I've fished the Yough in the Whitsett to W. Newton areas dating back well into the 70's. I've never caught a Drum you guys speak of. I know what a Drum is (Sheephead). Caught a couple in the Mon. Are these fairly new to the Yough ? I fish mostly springtime waters, so maybe they are a warm water species ? Since y'all seem to target them, are they sought after as table fare, or just for the fight ?

Was on the yough last night. A few bluegill. One or 2 bites from what was most likely a catfish, but I didnt land em. Water was stained and low.

The first one I remember seeing was back in the 80's. Some guy caught it at the river park in C'ville. I don't know when they start hitting exactly, I just start after them when the carp bite slows during the spawn. I've heard of people eating them. I don't. I'm not a fan of fish in general, just fishing.

For drum try the pool below the Memorial Bridge @ Connellsville. Drum love crayfish of any size and condition, they do not have to be soft shells. You'll get snagged a lot on the rocks but fish deep and near the center of the river where the current begins to slow. I usually use a slip sinker rig to get out and down quick. Also with crayfish you may catch just about anything there.

D-Nymph nice anti pebble mine jug. Also to the person who said about eating drum I never have but some crazy old lad told me boil it in salt water and it tastes like lobster... Who knows maybe it does... They kinda fit in my category of carp... Nail it to a nice piece of pine, cedar, or oak and then put it in the oven on about 425* for about 25min then remove un nail the fish and toss it then plate and eat the board... Haven't fished the Yough in about 10+ years. Use to always fish in Suttersville down from the Swickley Crick... Aside from the few trips to the dam and a few little perch, smallies and a pig bullhead. I haven't had luck. A buddy of mine does well for smallies when he's not going for musky.
