Snow

Been trying to find out how much snow is currently on the ground in the Elk/Walnut watershed area.  Doesn't look like the water gauges are on the move yet, and can't seem to view the Uncle Johns web cams.  Think my work is blocking it.

So can anyone help me out?   I'm trying to figure out what water conditions might be like this weekend with a melt off coming.  How many inches of snow are currently on the ground in the Elk/Walnut watershed area as of today (3/6/2013)?

Go to www.weather.gov.  This is the NOAA site.

At the top menu, highlight Information Center and click on Climate
At the left side menu click on Snow Cover.  Everything you need is here
Short cut to general idea of depth, click on National Analyses on the left side menu
In the top map, click on the skinny Souther Great Lakes region.
Since you are concerned about melt-off, I would check out snow-water equiv and snow melt

    Enjoy.

I think your right.  Saw a report from 3/5 on the reports page and just noticed the date and the words "heavy snow".  Thought they got some of the storm last night, got 11" here but over half of it melted by the time I got home from work tonight.   Now looking at that report closer, the guy was catching coho and fishing in MI.

We should be good.  Looks like the high temp was around 38 today and the walnut gauge didn't really do anything.

I live in Lake City and we have basically nothing. Theres some piled up but its nothing, the weather forecast I read on intellicast.com was for temps in the low 40's for the weekend.

It has been snowing off and on, but it is too warm for anything to stick.

Hmm, based on the water gauges today and the quotes above;  Sounds like a perfect green flow on the low side may be in store for the weekend.     Anyone know if there have been any smolts stocked yet?

Hoping it's still early enough to not have to deal with smolts.  All my past March trips have been at the end of the month when the water is swarming with the little buggers.

They might only be in the upper areas right now, if recently stocked.     If that's the case, I might try down by the mouths for a while just to avoid the smolt attack and get into some fresher fish.  Were you fishing upper sections, or down by the lake last week?

Nice that's promising.  Sounds like the PFBC probably didn't stock yet, so I'll probably just hit my favorite areas on elk.  Thanks for the info!
