i decided to fish from shore,  I just didnt feel like going through the time to unwinterize the boat yet.  I think i will have trouble launching the boat due to size at most of the launches right now,   I did a tree job for a guy and he paid me with a smaller boat as soon as the paper work gets here i will be using that as my river boat

There's a nice boat launch in sharpsburg and the guys are catching them right up the river from there. I fished in chestwaders from shore there today and there was 4 boats out there. I would've given anything to be on one. I heard they're catching them jigging in 20 to 25' of water. Good luck tomorrow I spent 4hrs there today. I sent u a message in ur other thread about joining me and my buddy today.

Well we fished hard yesterday, from sun up to sun down and got nothing.  It was cold and snowing at times, the wind was whipping it was miserable but still managed to have fun.  The fish hopefully will turn on soon.  I was watching the guys in the boats and they didnt seem to have much luck either.  We will see what mid week holds for me getting back out

I could be wrong, and I am sure someone will correct me if I am lol . . . But I think it is highly unlikely that there are spots upriver from the Sharpsburg launch that has water over 20 feet deep.  The dam is about a mile upriver, and the water at the safety buoys is not deep at all.  While I do most of my fishing from shore as well, I have been through that entire area in a boat several times and rarely saw the depthfinder show water deeper than 10-12 feet.

Indeed you are wrong.  I fish the 3rivers pool quite frequently via boat.  There is an area close to the dam that will mark 30ft on the finder.

Plenty of water above sharpsburgh cracking the 20+ foot mark. That being said, its gets sketchy the closer you get to the dam and can go down to a foot or two. Some of our best numbers came out of the area above the sharpsburgh launch

Never fished the river for Walleye before but I may get my boat out and give it a try near Sharpsburgh or one of the Lochs in the next week or so.
I got just a bare bones 16' alum with a 15HP outbord, so not as big a deal for me to get it ready for the water as yours might be eyeassassin.
Any tips any of you care to share with a total novice for river eyes? I figured on jig heads with shiners, twister tails, and maybe crankbaits.
Also may try just fishing from shore before committing to putting the boat in, if so I thought Lochs 3 & 4, any other suggestions?
    Thanks guys!
    Tight lines & God bless!

I usually find fish right near a current break where slower water meets faster water. Edge of an Eddie, creek mouth, or off the back side of a point. I have done best early in the morning or on a real cloudy or rainy day. But that might just be me. I just slowly drag my minnow(4" creek chub) on a jig across the bottom. If they're short striking them, down size the minnow or switch to a hook and split shot. I like a gamakatsu octopus in a sz 8 or 6.

I think next week i am going to take the boat out and see if i can boat some eyes.  I know the river is going to come up from the rain but it should be back down by next week and the temps are supposed to warm up a little

I fished the Ohio today, I thought it would be up some but it was pretty low. Brought home 4 eating size and returned 2- 5lb. plus females.

For those of you that fish the creek mouths that are approved trout waters in March - like Buffalo, Bull, Pine or Deer Creek - just wondering how anal the WCO's get about how close you fish to the creek mouth.

Had a little time yesterday to make a few casts in Tarentum and was about to start casting into Bull Creek when I realized I probably shouldn't.  Just wondering.

I've never had any trouble with them but I wouldn't push my luck as far as casting up into it tho only out in the actual river infront of it. Eyeassassin if u go out an evening this week let know. I'd love an excuse to get out. I get home around 4:30 and live about 15 mins from where we go.That guy got that big eye in the evening right before sunset. Let me know. If I go I'll give u a heads up before hand

Fished the mouth of pine last night on the allegheny. No walleye, but the carp are thick down there right now!  The river wasnt high, but the current seemed nasty...the green bouy in front of the mouth was completely under water at times.

    From the Post Gazette:

Austin Ramsey of Shaler cast a smoke tube jig into Pine Creek at Sharpsburg when he hooked a 32-inch, 13.2-pound walleye. Water is still too cold for spawning but walleye continued to stage near the creek's confluence with the Allegheny River.

Thats one hell of a fish! That picture was taken a ways away from pine creek and its mouth though... Thats at the sharpsburg boat/kayak launch area about a mile up river.  Glad to see someone so young catch it, he will be hooked for life now!

I probably wouldn't eat anything out of that river from Springdale down. Not sure if there are any power plants farther north than the one in Cheswick/Springdale. Power plants put a lot of bad crap in the rivers. I will say this. Last year was the first time that I ever tried Walleye. It is by far the best fish that I have ever eaten. I just might book a Walleye charter this year up on Erie.
