Cross Creek

Open water everywhere, little bit of glaze in the coves and down on the flats. Water pumps across from dock area at entrance to that cove.

I really like this lake and it has not locked up all season.  I know they are doing alot of drilling right by the lake and i am hoping that isnt the reason.  Thanks for the update, i have been driving down once a week and made the decision last week that i would not drive back till warmer weather and with my boat

The first Bass  contest is suppose to be 3/23. Once they put the docks back I want to see if their drilling over by the old milk house on the left. My only concern is that their careful and don't screw the lake up. Some guys claim thats why we had poor weedbeds down on the flats at the lowend, back wash from the pumps that where there for awhile.

Its my home lake and when they pumped gallons out of it 2 years back they deff hurt the fishing and the vegitation in the lake.  The lake gets alot of pressure as is from the locals and tourneys on it.  The sad thing is, the gas well drillers just dont care and I really dont think they are that carefull.  There main concern is money, not habitat.

Theres a ton of guys that agree, I watched the Mex swim out with their sump hoses and place them in the lake and when they would shut down one of the three pumps you'd see bubbles come up and the water would get muddy and there was small puddles in the feild all along those lines. I'm not saying its the cause but the weed beds have never been the same. I've also snaged and pulled in some of their buckets they had on the end of those hoses. Thats the only lake I fish due to health reasons so I hope no one screws it up. I use to put up hay on some of those farms under there

I feel for you Walleye jigs.  Its a good lake for all sorts of species and by far the nicest in Washington Co.  It sucks that they have to pump water out of the lake.  They should go to the crappy river if you ask me.  They have a cow if us bass tourney guys sit there and have a 30 boat tourney cause of the pressure on the lake/fish but sure look the other way when these gas well guys are destroying the lakes habitat and changing its natural conditions.  It makes you wonder.  Nothing but crooked people/wardens/conservation officers now a days.

I woder if they have the same rules as before and have to stop pumping by April 1st. I've also heard a local is trying to get his hands on property around the park to develop like they did at Cherry Valley now you havee to buy a townhouse to fish the lake. Has anyone heaard anything about the Dutch Forks lake?

I thought 2yrs ago low water was a valve problem with the dam? Good point with why not get water from rivers?

Yeah, I heard that onee too but if you went to the dam end of the lake and climbed to the top there should have been a lot of flowing water. Then too we'll ignore the 3 hugh pumps running 24/7 on the old road bed at the low end of the lake. I will agree it could have been both. I will say that it had nothing to do with a lack of rain seeing that ,Cherry Valley,Cannonsburg or waterdam #1 or #2 was any where near as low.

All valid points and Ive seen them back down to the lake with the water trucks down by the shallows and start pumping while fishing that end 2 years ago.  Either way with the water lever down 4 to 7 feet 2 yrs ago....the lake has never recoverd "100%" if you ask me and Im on it 2 to 3 times a week.

    The other: http://www.marcellus-shal...eek-Park-Gas-Wells.htm
    Specific to Cross Creek.

Wow! Thank you for the sites. I've had to watch the lost of several small lakes around Washington county and I guess its not over yet. Due to health I no longer venter far from home, but at Cross Creek there are some people who keep an eye on me. Doctors want me to carry a cell phone with me but whats the use? You have to go to the park entrance to use one or  get to the dock to use the emerg land line. I ask the deputy the other day why they don't use some of the Range money to install a cell booster,no answer. I realize we need the gas but every good idea gets screwed up when people get involved. Thers days when I see a lot of floating fish but when I say something I'm told Poor handling by you fishermen

Jigs; the lake is filling up, will be stocked with trout in the spring. Just cut trees by the dam and the launches and left everything else. Talk about some fish cover!

They are not really going to stock those darn trout in Cross Creek there are they?  I really hope not

Thats what it sounds like to me! I guess for the first time since they torn the dam down I'll buy my stamp. I know some on here will think its stupid but when I was a kid trout was the only real game in town.Cherry Valley sportsman club use to stock cherry valley w/ trout and you use to buy a permit to fish there. I use to get off the busat the grade school, ssneak around back of the school and run to the lake, had an old metal bait caster w/ braid that wouldn't cast 20 feet but I loved those days and on good days I'd get to go to Dutch Forks w/ my grandpa,so yes I'm happy to hear the might be back!!

I know this is off topic a bit, but does anyone know if there is a good topo map or cross creek and where I can buy one? The lake is so small, it does not even show up on my navigation chip.

About the closest thing I've seen was on the Fish comm website on fish habitat improvement plan of Cross creek. It showed where they placed their strutures w/ lat/lon and i believe depth. Other then that I think she's too small for any real maps. Theres some arieal maps on google.

Rest east and enjoy your morning coffee. First item on the online O-R paper  Range has spill at Cross Creek last month, but they asure us there will be no harm to the lake. DEP agrees but will look into it. I feel better already! Sorry for the spelling haven't taken morning meds yet. I simply don't understand with todays tech and all the money Range throws around how does these spills still happen and on a lake that is the center for fishing in this area. After all the fighting it took to put that lake here now some outsiders are going to destroy it. We'll get a couple more trees and maaybe a new slideing board out of  this.
