New Boat

I have been a shore fisherman primarily my whole life. I have always stood on the sidelines thinking boy wouldn't it be great to fish out there. This winter I made the jump to buying a 14ft boat. The boat has a Johnson 9.5 and a trolling motor. Was just looking for a few tips on boat launches and good places to start this spring. I'm from Indiana county and any info would be greatly appreciated

I also have always fished from shore. I plan on buying one soon. Just getting a few things paid for first. There are many places on my local lakes that are just not accessible by foot. They also are places that I watch guys pulling fish after fish out.

Learn how to troll. Once I did It greatly improved the amount of fish that I caught. Are you trying to fish primarily lakes or rivers? If you are feeling adventurous check out www.tinboats.net. Guys turn boats like yours into fishing machines and show how they do it step by step. pretty cool and helpful if you ever wanna install a small livewell or flat floor to your boat etc...

    What part of Indiana County?

Yellow Creek would be a good place to start, easy to get to and some decent ramps.
Mahoaning would be another good starter, the ramp at Milton Loop is easy to launch from.

Start with lakes instead of rivers till your comfortable with the boat and any bugs are worked out. Get a good anchor with chain and lots of rope. 2 anchors is even better in wind and current. And make sure your trolling motor battery(s) is good and fully charged.

+ 1 on yellow creek,  it's in your area and provides a wide variety of game fish, Pike, some walleye, Smallies, Crappie ect... Have fun and good luck.

& snag thanks for the tinboat link, I have an older 14ft shallow v starcraft and need to redo the inside this spring. This website looks like it should help alot. good post.

    Got Walleye???

Thanks for the great responses guys. I am excited to fish both lakes and rivers. I live in homer city so I'm about 15 min from yellow Creek. Funny you mentioned Milton loop because I did some work near there today. A local also said the sportsman launch was also nice and closer to the dam. The link is going to be very helpful until the weather breaks cause everyone knows how boys like to play with new toys. Any tips on trolling will be a big help

Yes, sportsman launch is MUCH closer to the dam and it is a nice ramp...but steep. Keep your winch line hooked while backing down!
However, the road to sportsman is like a mine field...some of the potholes are deep enough to hide a Sherman tank!

"Keep your winch line hooked while backing down!" Sound advice right there! In the past 10 yrs I've been boating on my own I've seen 3 boats slide off the back of trailers at the ramp. One was a 24'or so Erie trolling boat. That'll ruin a day real quick.
