13 Fishing Rod

I got the new Cabelas fishing book the other day. I see there is a new or new to me fishing rod called 13 Fishing Omen Black rod. Just wondering if anyone ever heard of them or used them. They seem to have some great features for the money. I have a nice Quantum reel that I want to get a nice rod in the $100-$120 range. Anyone have any other suggestions or opinions? Sorry about posting it here. I just have never had much luck posting in the tackle section.

    Hey,
I was checking the Omen out about a two months ago, got some pretty good reviews.
    Here's one from tackletour http://tackletour.com/review13omencastingrod.html

I ended up going with a Dobyns on sale at BTD.
BTD is having another 20% off sale now through Monday, lots of good deals on some awesome rods........... and free shipping.

It really depends on what you're looking for... Big Country posted about the best source for tackle reviews because the guys at TT actually take it out and real test it I mean they ran over a $30 tackle box with a Jeep for the test recently...  Wired2fish.com is also another great resource... (http://wired2fish.com/unlucky-and-awesome-p17400) < Their review  For the $$$ the rods seem reasonable they come with a pretty good warranty...  More then the St. Croix Triumph, Rage, and Primer/Split Grip rods.  Also what are you going to be using the rod for mostly?  That's where the big question lies.

I've had most of the rods listed and they are all great.
St. Croix will always be a favorite of mine, I've had Triumphs to Legend Tournaments.
Denali are awesome, I had the Jadewood crankbait for awhile.
Still have an Ugly Stick i bought 11 years ago and use it when needed.
Fenwick has some awesome spinning rods, Elite Tech Smallmouth, 6'9" M/XF paired with a 2500 series reel is a pretty nice setup.

I could go on, trying new rods out is my thing. Let us know some specifics and we'll help ya out.

Looking to mainly target bass. I have always just fished for trout and panfish and have a few ULs that I really like. I am just starting to get into bass fishing. Really don't know a lot about it. Looking for what would be the best general purpose rod. I mostly fish with soft plastics, swimbaits etc. Probably because that is what I have had the most success with. Like I said, keep in mind that I am just learning the whole bass fishing thing.

im no pro by any means but for bass fishing id go with 6'6''-7' medium action  maybe med-heavy  depending on what type of area your fishing, i have a st croix ps66mhf2 which maybe a little overkill for smallmouth in the river but the areas we fish have alot of pike  so its a bit of confidence booster when fishing with larger lures, hope this helps and good luck

Yep, 6'6"-7' will cover a good number of techniques. I'd go with Medium action to start.

Thanks for the responses. That is what I have been looking at. 6'6" to 7' med. rod. I just have a hard time making a decision on anything. I think I am just gonna have to get out to Cabelas and look at some rods.

Just curious what reel are you pairing it to?  And generally what's your price range?  Main reason I ask is because if you're looking for something you're going to be casting a lot you'll want a rod that will match the reel quite well.  And for price range you can narrow it down fairly well then...  I know some guys refuse to spend over $75-100 for a rod and they have their own opinion but, the truth is once you fish a top end rod you'll see why they are the price they are and why they are "enthusiast" type rods...

I picked up two brand new Quantum reels. They are a couple years old. The one I am looking for a rod for is a Quantum Catalyst pti size 30. It's a $90-$100 reel. Not looking to pair it with a $400 G Loomis or anything. Just looking for a the best rod in the $100 to $150 range. I seen the 13 fishing rod in the new Cabelas book. Never heard of them. Wondered if anyone had any experience with them. Any tips or opinions are appreciated.

st croix premier series is in that range and there excellent rods, like i said i have the ps66mhf2 and its a dream to use, its rated for 8-17lb test, and 1/2 to 1 ounce lures and has plenty of backbone for pulling bass out of cover, i just purchased the ps70mf2 its rated for 6-12lb test and 1/4-5/8 ounce lures i havent had the chance to use though

By no means was I suggesting putting a $50 reel on a G-Loomis NRX or a Megabass or an Evergreen I was just curious what reel you were using because if you're pitching something a-lot you won't want to have a heavy weight rod (not action) and be tired after an hour.  So roughly a 9.5-10.1 oz reel..  Well like mooooo4me said the St. Croix Premier series or the Cabela's exclusive split grip Premier series would work.  According to Tackle warehouse reviews (3) all liked the rod and the only one negative was a guy snapped the tip on a rod that was shipped to him while removing the bubble wrap that was protecting the guides. (The 13 Fishing Omen Black series.)  Shimano also makes some pretty good sticks too and a once you get a little higher up in their catalog they make more technique specific rods...

Kistlers are pretty wicked.  I'll never buy another rod after them.  They are more sensitive than a GLoomis if you ask me.  Loomis's are over priced.  Buying a logo.  These guys are right about the St. Croix.  Fenwicks and Falcons are decent too.  Good luck!

Thanks for all the responses. My problem is I can never actually make a decision. Next thing is actually choosing one.
