mammoth lake

Just came back from Mammoth, ice melted off of about 90% of the lake this afternoon. We did very well on trout & gills. Trout were mostly nice & they were hitting lures pretty hard & fought very well also.  sam

There are browns there? I don't go there a ton but when I do I only seen rainbows being caught.  Stocking says just rainbows also. Does someone else stock it with browns. Just like to know if there are browns in there.

The fall stocking this year was Browns only in Mammoth,Twin,Northmoreland,& Donegal in this area. They used to put Browns in Mammoth in the past when I fished there more, not sure what they put in lately.  sam

Far as I could tell, contrary to the stocking list last fall, spring, and the fall before that were all browns.

Lake was about 60% iced over. Had one follow in the short time I fished. Upper twin was totally ice covered and the lower was 80% covered.

    It'll be warmer, later.
I was thinking about trying for some carp later today. After noon might be warm enough to maybe get a bite. Or, maybe it's been so long since I caught anything bigger than a trout. That I'm willing to sit behind my rods in some pathetic hope of getting a double digit fish.

Haven't seen any tailing carp in the normal summer places in mammoth. I wouldn't even know where to begin in conditions like this.

I doubt I'll even go today. The only hope I see of getting a carp now, would be the deepest water. There's pretty much no way I'd hook into one. I just have the itch. Should try targeting suckers first.
