I haven't been there since they drained and refilled. It's going to take a little time to get the population back to normal, at least for nice size fish. There were some really nice large mouth. They stock with trout, so during the spring, it will be fished heavily. It used to be overpopulated with small crappie. If you have kids, there isn't much better for short attention spans. Catch a few fish in 1/2 hour then go to the playground. Watch the dog walkers, ect. Do a search on here. The local bait shop owner visits here every so often. Stop by and chat with him. He'll get you on some fish. Good luck

its not as good for small panfish (for kids attention span) as it was before they drained it. Ive taken my kids a couple times. But im sure in a couple years the bass will get some decent size to them again. I caught some trout there a month or so ago, as well as a decent crappie.

I appreciate the info I wouldn't mind catching some trout. I saw it was frozen but no one was on it. It's probably not safe ice. I wouldnt have minded checking the lake out when it was drained to scope out the bottom. It seems like a real shallow lake. When I go there I'll probably try by the ****. If u don't mind where'd u catch the trout?

I fished high point lake last weekend and it was awesome! Nothing better then pulling a nice size fish thru a hole in the ice. We caught 7 pike and 3 perch. Probably about 15 guys out there.

FOM376: I've never paid attention - do they even allow ice fishing on NPL? Walli: There's no magic spots on NPL. If you fish it, they will come.

Not sure on whether ur allowed or not but I'll look into it. Personally I don't care if I catch anything as long I'm on the water unwinding. A bad day fishing is better then a good day at work. Although it is great catching something! I think the bait store at npl is closed until march.

First of all, welcome to Fish Erie Walli slayer! NPL is a good lake, especially so for those that live close to the city. I haven't been there since the draw down, but it was good anywhere from the shore for trout. During the 1st two weeks of Opening Day, it's like most places, crowded. Don't forget to try the outflow which is Pine Run for trout. It's a really beautiful little stream, especially so for being in the city and besides being productive, it's quite easy to walk down the shore. It does have some deep holes and if you can fish it during the 1st two weeks of Opening Day, it's not nearly as crowded as the main lake. People generally don't like to exert any effort to fish! As you wrote, High Point Lake is a good lake for ice fishing as the pike are very willing to bite. Any time that I've been there, there wasn't any trouble with flags popping up. Good Luck!!!

yes u can ice fish n.p.l., although i doubt the ice is or will be safe for the remainder of the winter. U can catch trout all over there. They stock everywhere.

I don't think they did behind the boat house. They did do the little pond like area across from the playground up from the boathouse. They used a meathod there where they vacuumed the silt off the bottom and spread it on the opposite shore.

Check out Google or other maps, there are some pretty nice areas of Pine Creek to explore. Even the stretch along Rt. 8 is productive, although not very scenic...

Drilled a hole about 15 feet from shore Saturday, 2/9/13. About 2.5 inches thick. Doesn't look good for this year. The good news is that pine creek above and below the lake was pretty ice free.

Thanks Porktown I'm looking forward to working pine creek! I'll google it and see what i come up with. Hopefully I pick up something. I may be going there sat but it's a toss up between that and fishing the allegheny for walleye or whatever wants to bite.

You're welcome Walli slayer! I don't always look at posts after I've responded and at times it might be a week or two before I get on-line. You can always pm me for anything. Good Luck!
