Big Gills

I took the boys out ice fishing for the first time. They had a blast. They both caught plenty of big gills in the 8"-9" range. I caught a big one that measured around 11". The last time we talked about big gills, someone said that they wanted a picture of one beside a tape measure. Here you go.

Nice fish! I could go for a couple of them right about now.

The worst day hunting or fishing will always be better then the best day at school or work!

Thanks guys! I hope to get back out there and pick up a few more. This warm weather coming might really mess us up though.

Very nice 'gill  Slabdaddy! Fish, reptiles, crustaceans and some plants [possibly other lifeforms]  possess indeterminate growth as I have written elsewhere before. That is the ability to continue to grow as long as some basic needs are met. Those stories one hears of 20' + crocodiles are not all the wild imagination of someone. There is a documented case of a 60' snake and several cases of 20 lbs and > of Maine lobsters. OK, I'll stop before someone says "new thread", lol!

I'm hoping to beat this gill when the ice comes back on.

I have no doubt you'll get bigger ones Slabdaddy. You obviously have the skills as you've done it before and your average size 'gills isn't bad.  You have the knowledge and with IG on your side, you have a killer combination. I'd love to see more pics. Not because you have to prove anything to anybody, just because I love looking at fish photos. Go get 'em! ! !

Thanks 5K. I found them once. I think I can find them again. Now I know what I was doing wrong in other ice seasons. I was looking in the wrong places. I'll leave it at that. I learned a lot this year.
