I got a nice rod bag. Holds multiple rods. Maybe now all my rods won't get tangled up in the bed of my truck. Also some gift cards so they will probably go for fishing gear.

cool, missed that in your original post, sorry. My buddy also got a rod bag, looks pretty sweet and effective. I'll be looking into getting one as well.

Gift cards here for BP. Not really a fan of their site, but it's better than paying for it from my pocket... Have a few saved up from my birthday too. Thinking Powerpro and a fish fryer. I probably have enough tackle and rods to last me 5 years, if I didn't "run into deals" or find that hot new lure/jig and abandon the old hot lure/jig...

It's a shame we don't have one on this half of the state. Kind of a PITA, Cabelas is a decent drive as well. Just wait for the free shipping deals they occassionaly run, then it's not so bad.

I find them to be overpriced on many things, and limited selection in many departments as well (waders and wader boots for example). I've never been in a shop, so can't comment on them, but heard they rival Cabela's. I have been in the Cabela's a few times. Not worth the drive, unless I happen to be passing by for business travel. I like the aquariums more than the items in the store. I can only assume BPS is the same, although with free money, I guess it is a bit different... I'd much rather see a FishUSA store in Pgh than either of these two. There is some cheap rent at Century 3!!!

I've never been to BPS either, I have been to Cabelas, but won't go out of my way to go there. In the early spring they do have good deals on lures at least $1-2 reg prices if you buy on line, pair that with free shipping it's a pretty good deal. I don't buy online often because I refuse to pay inflated shipping cost. Century 3 is headed towards what Parkway Center is now. Only a matter of time before they demo that place.

I also received a pretty nice BP gift card. Gotta keep my eye open for any of those free shipping days because it seems like a waste of a $25 gift card to spend $5 on shipping.

They were going nuts with the free shipping (usually $50 or $75 min.) prior to Christmas. Even had a day or two right before Christmas for free shipping on anything. They're like any store, throw up sales near holidays, no matter what holiday. I'm personally waiting for the items to go on sale. Depending on what you are buying, on sale for $7 and paying $5 shipping, isn't bad. I should have jumped on the fryer that I was checking out on sale, but don't want another item sitting around in my garage in the Winter, using maybe once or twice before Spring. For how bad that I ate and drank over the past two weeks, a fryer now, might put me in a box...

i got absolutely no fishing stuff for Christmas. i put up a bird feeder in the fall so as a present i got 2, that's 2, bird watching books of birds from around the world. i hope a few make it across the ocean with a tuna in it's beak or something! i also got a Macy's gift cert. from my brother?!? isn't Macy's a parade? i don't think they sell fishing stuff. he doesn't hunt of fish. i think next year i'll get him a gift cert. to Hook and Hackle! i'll be exchanging gifts this sat. with two of my children. maybe i'll get something that has to do with fishing but who know? (even a good cigar wouldn't be bad) it's the thought that counts!!

dt i would highly discourage bird watching. fisherman are wierd, but they are no match for birdwatchers.

I agree that any fishing gear is good. About Bass Pro. I was in the one in Nashville TN. My uncle lives there. He is really involved in the Bass tournaments there. As expected, they have more fishing gear than Cabelas. Look about the same inside. I heard they were supposed to put one around here. I just passed the one out by Hershey a few weeks ago. Went out there for high school state championship. Didn't get a chance to go in though. I doubt i'd go back out there just for that. Not that much different from Cabelas. I like Gander Mountain myself. I mainly try to buy from the local mom and pops but they are getting harder to come by. P.S.: If anyone ever gets the chance to go down to Nashville. Give Percy Priest Lake a try. I had the opportunity to fish it a few years back. It is an awesome lake. Caught some nice Largemouth there. Great fishing for just about anything.
