SWPA Ice Repot
I went to cannonsburg today just to check and the lake is locked up besides a small part right against the overflow of the dam. Ice at shore was about 1/2 inch. I walked out a good 8 feet before it started to crack under me. I will check cross creek tomorrow and update then. Any lakes that you can report on in SWPA would be great so we can save each other some gas and maybe meet some new people.

I saw 3 guys fishing Acme dam this morning. They weren't very far out. Maybe 20' off shore. I know there were a few inches on the lake last week, but I have no idea how thick it is now. Hopefully I'll get out to check later today. If this storm stops anyway.

Well went and checked Cross Creek today and there is very little ice just where the creek comes in. Main lake is wide open with no ice even in the coves. It is going to be a good while before we are on there. This pic is standing at the launch and looking down towards where the dam is.

Considering the depths there and spring water feed that one is gonna need more time. Great job on keeping us posted. Sure would be nice to get a multi week low temp freeze to really explore Cross Creek frozen. This place is loaded with fish, very fertile lake, the panfish regs should be lifted for a year or two to start increasing size average again. Let the bucket fillers have at it. Nice report and pics.

I'm an old fart eyes, I got to watch the lake being built. Use to drive in from 844 when i got my drivers license to fish the pond near the boat launch before there was a boat launch. Caught some walleyes after lake opening by trolling but now the population is minimal. The Saugeye population is high with few people targeting them. The Fish Commission made the right choice in concentrating on saugeye as opposed to walleye. They are more aggressive than walleye and they grow faster. They don't reproduce but walleye didn't reproduce here either. Still, fishermen have had a hard time catching them in this lake. The guys that caught them ain't saying anything (can't blame um) and the guys that yak off were just lucky that day. If you ever witnessed a rockbass and a walleye and a saugeye in an aquarium you would see what i mean. You would think these guys never eat. "Catching a fish is like teasing a cat" doesn't seem to apply. Persistence is key. Not many guys have that.

I troll alot forsaugeyes there and most of the average 6 a year but this year only 2 but only got to fish 3 times before my heart actted up again.I'm what some of the young guys over there refer to as the draggers. Like the saugeyes our numbers are falling. You'd be surprized at the size of some of the crappie we pick up.

Acme dam has 3" of meh ice. I'm going to give it another night and maybe try it tomorrow. The slush layer on top is freezing nicely and the wind has blown a good bit of the snow off. I know it's no great lake, but there are some nice gills and crappie and it's small enough to be frozen.

Take care of your heart, a friend just told me on the phone tonight, "you have more weekends behind you than in front of you". There are some really big gills and crappies there but you have to put in your time. Sounds like you think ur runnin out of time.

Anyone been out checking the ice? I would think with the temps as low as they've been, and relatively light snow cover most lakes should be locking up tight. I plan on trying to get out this weekend somewhere.

I was told there were a couple guys fishing Donegal lake today. I don't know how thick the ice is, but by the weekend I'm sure it'll be more than safe.
