Heck of a line of heavy duty weather stretching from York, PA. straight up to Watertown, NY.

That was quite a light show last night! North branch is spiking vertically from last nights downpour... If there was any snow left up on the hill we could see another bump in water

Heavy rains , thunderstorms last night blew my striper creek out. Mighty Hudson was muddy but seemed to take it. Shall see what it looks like tomorrow . No fishing for me till Thurs then right on through till Sunday , conditions permitting . A giant oak fell out back and gotta cut some wood when I can. 2 truck loads today - 20 more to go :) Hope the weather underground gets their act together . 1 min it's gonna pour all week the next it's on- off showers, partly sunny, partly cloudy .. WTF P.S. A 40" striper was caught yesterday in the same spot behind my house as where I got mine. They are here

We have had some cold snowy weather the last few days, a few inches fell in some locales. On another note I just pulled the trigger ( literally ) on a Glock 19 Gen 4. Went back and forth on new ..... used...... gen 3......... gen 4 and just said to heck with it. Used 4's are non existent and the 3's are only a few bucks less when new. Got a nice package with 3 clips a box of ammo for a decent price so I am happy.

Congratulations on the Glock 19 Generation 4 Clint. There is suppose to be a significant difference in recoil between the Gen 3s and 4s with the 4s being the better of the two. Much less jump and more of a push allowing quicker recovery back to the target for multi shots. I also understand the magazines for the 4s are more friendly to left hand shooters. 9 x 19s serve well for personal protection and, recreational shooting, as the ammo won't break the bank. Have fun with the gun.

Good luck with the new toy Clint. I have a M26, I got before I retired in 2006 and put less than a box threw it. It hasn't seen the light of day since. 9mm is okay but I would have gone with the 10mm or .45. Now you have to find ball ammo that it likes. Plink away.

Thats another reason i opted for the 4 being left handed, you can switch the clip release. Gerry other calibers crissed my mind but 9 is cheap and easiest to get and being new to the game wanted something to learn with too

Cold for this time of year in the 40's and windy. Sun is shining though. Grass wants to grow, but the temp is holding it back. We are going to wait another week before we turn the cows out. I did get the garden plowed and disked, but it needs to be gone over one or two more times with the disc as I expanded it and we have to cut the sod up more. Going to try and get the peas in next week.

Yup, the outdoor work continues for me too clint. Building a slew of 10'*2'raised beds with concrete blocks while multi tasking a hand full of other tasks. Its like working in circles I tell ya!!! Right now we have over 50 meat chickens, 4 turkeys, 6 ducks and 3 pigs on the way. 15 of the meat chickens are slow growing road island red roosters. I plan on skinning their necks and saddles for hackle feathers at slaughter time. The garden will be expanded for us as well. Have about 5 -7 cord of fire wood left over. No complaints thus far. The weather was pretty blustery today. Gonna start changing soon though. I would love to see it stay below 75 for most of the summer

Hey Andy where are you getting your pigs. I want to get a few. We almost got a pen done. I have about 20 cords down and will slowly cut it over the summer. We are still burning to keep the plants warm in the basement I started.

Nice job on the 20 cord. I have some trees to gather and am looking to have some logs dropped off myself. We get our pigs from the Amish. We kept ours in a 20*20 pen last year. This year we are expanding. We will train the piglets to a hot wire and give them an additional area to pasture in. The guy on 28 went out of business so we have to buy our feed by the 1000 to get a good price. Those pigs are brutes! They will scratch themselves on your fence posts so make sure they are solid and atleast 20" down with concrete. I rented a post hole auger from deatons and filled each hole solid with concrete around a 4" landscapers tie. I used 1*6 pressured treated for my horizontal fencing with with wire fencing as well. Didn't have one get out. Make sure you have a row of fence down low for them when theyre little buggers as they can slip through just about anything.

You should be good to go clint. When I first got mine last year I kept them in my wood porch for a couple days before I was done with the pen and they got out. They are quick when they're young and very smart. One word of advice if they get out is leave them be as much as you can. They will want to go back to their food and shelter. I'd talk to the Amish sooner than later also. If you can't find any I do know of someone who will have a litter ready in june

Dad is going up tomorrow so we will see. Neighbor used to get bags and bags of doughnuts to feed to his. We used to pick through the bags and eat the ''good'' ones. It will be table scraps, corn meal and jog mash for these. Keep them well fed and they sleep alot.

Had an arrangement with some Doughnut shops long ago- used to take them North for Bear bait. Then they started mixing all their trash, from old paper to coffee grounds, with the excess doughnuts.

The only bear baiting we can do in NYS is to cook bacon upwind of the stand! I was told the trick by the Ranger in the Moose River Plains many years ago, works great in years when there are no nuts or berries, fair when there are natural foods. Spoke once with a Westchester police officer who told me he had tried frozen menhaden blocks, but nothing came in during the day and all that was left in the AM were the shredded garbage bags the blocks were frozen in, so he quit cheating.

That's a waste of good striper chum. I took advantage of a stomach virus to stay home today, but started to feel a little better. On a side note, menhaden schools are making a little bit of a comeback. I've been waiting for time and warm weather to put a new headlight assembly in my Tacoma. All you need is a flat screwdriver and various 10mm wrenches... and patience an a degree in automotive engineering. After removing the battery ,grill and inner fender well it comes out and goes in exactly one twisting and rocking motion. Easy to break something. Amazingly, I didn't break any of the plastic clips, pins, and connectors (it's why I waited for warm weather). Use to be so much easier.... Toyota wanted over 500 for the OEM assembly and install. I bought an exact aftermarket for 180. Guess it was worth the hour and a half battle. Oh, yeah, no YouTube or an instruction on the net. Toyota guys probably do it in 45 min. I'll take some of the money I saved and hand it over to HT for some fuel for the Daisy Mae. I'm gonna be sick a day next week, too. (Or at least feeding the striper addiction) Trout and smallmouth season is in full bloom. Lots of nice bows from my float tube and some ridiculous smallie action in the Big H. Happy Spring, guys.

Local put and take trout is OK here at home-- I bone them and fry in butter -serve with sliced almonds in a wine sauce and/or with caramelized onions with chopped bacon- pan fried in oil asparagus is also a nice side.

Today is nice so far. There was a kids fishing derby up at the river so at 0700 I was there with the 3 girls. The kids part was at the small pond on the corner of 13. It was like September in town, lines flying everywhere and being crossed and way too many people for that small area. Of course Andy got there first and pushed everyone out of the best spot and his kids cleaned up (kidding of course). His son must take after the old man because he reeled in quite a few. We got one so all was not lost. Once the sun got a little higher they shut off. Good job to the stillbrook club for stocking it for the kids and putting on the derby. Just wish there was a place that was a bit bigger for the younger ones to go. I wonder if any of the teens got into steel on the river. I did not stay past 10 as to of the girls were starting to get bored and running around too much

Yup clint I didn't get one chance to deslime my hands..lol ... Alex ended up taking first place and got a new rod and reel and a hand carved wooden trout trophy. Clint you're right, that is a great little thing they have going on but a little more room would be nice. It was nice to see Altmar lots full of cars with no one catching anything on the river. Even up until a few years ago there'd be no one on this river in the month of may. Hopefully most start realizing it is very hit or miss this time of year and give it a rest in may for the years to come :)

While today is a fine day at 74 degrees and a lite to moderate wind. It was a bad day for me. Small heifer went into labor last night and could not push the calf out. This am only part of the head and feet. We had to use a come along to winch it out. It was Huge, probably 100#. Calf was dead of course an mom is not doing too well. Gave her a shot of penicillin and two aspirin and hope for the beast I guess. we drew out about 20 more loads of manure and I made a pig trough. My welding needs work, but it is stuck together.
