Went to hatchery yesterday to find it closed still. Beaver dam is still frozen from waterfall down to culvert but flowing pretty good. 40's today with rain this afternoon and in to tomorrow with 40's again. I don't think we're gonna blow out but the water is probably gonna bump by Friday evening. Depending on weather the next 2-3 weeks, the river could blow out pretty big. A lot of hard frozen snow even here in the lake region. Tug has double.

Starting to rain now. Ground is frozen still with softening snow on top. First rain of the new year. Things are gonna start flowing. Colder trend starting this weekend might lighten the load a bit, but ice is breaking!

Most usgs gauges for tug hill basins are Near lowest recorded or in 25th percentile of average flows for this time of year since recording. Estuary broke through finally with flow under both rt. 3 bridges. East wind yesterday broke the ice off the south eastern end of the lake. Would be a sight to see if a big west wind comes and crashes it all back against the shore line. Hitting 40's again today. Little spring creeks are flowing good... Let's see what happens. Some gauges are still ice bound

Today's rain was short lived and turned to all snow. Although it is 40 degrees according to AccuWeather.

I'm listening :) . Not much happening here. Rain , dreary and slightly warm. The mighty Hudson and its tribs are opened up completely now . While there is still plenty of ice on the lakes ( 20" tues ) my thoughts of getting " on " them next Friday are starting to fade. Besides it looks windy as heck in the long range. Gonna instal the new electronics on Daisy Mae this weekend and wallow in the mud around the house.
Good news:
The wife bought me a new Toyota Tundra TRD double cab pick up last night :) hoping to take delivery tomorrow .

Congrats on new truck!
I'll tell ya, with 1-3 foot in the eastern lake region with 2-4 in the tug... This can get real ugly if the weather really breaks in the next 2 weeks

It's not really if, its when db, you know..
Also it's "if" I decide to bring back my April pilgrimage to Jack's secret spot.  I better do it before "when" happens.
We have had a slow but steady melt here for about 2 weeks.. Trout streams. rivers and tribs are in pretty fine shape for the winter that was..
I'm quite sure you will get the serious spring thaw .. I hope we will not at this point and I will be catching stripers in 25 days or less :)
Any Heavy Rain, will suck  everywhere but its spitting today and not causing any issue except muddying up our floors..

Got a lite , but soaking rain today in the afternoon. Not heavy by any means. Ice here should hold out for one more weekend. I think I will try to hit the river next week during the week after work at least one night, probably Wednesday.  Will try the ice  on Sunday one last time

absolutely nothing related to NY weather but if EVER you get the chance to visit the states of AZ, OK, or NM.. AMAZING !!! DO it !!! Mostly National Forest Preserve/ Parks and FREE land, NO FENCES or very little restrictions , you can walk / hike on any of the pics I posted.. Camp in the NP for a cheap fee ($25.00 a week last I was there )  or down in the canyon on a reservation permit (way beyond my capabilities )    .. WAY affordably ..
Wish Fichy and Nanc the best of times in the High Desert.. I'm sure their pics will marvel my memories ,,;

How's some heavy rain with thunder and lightning sound?Well that's what we had around 7 PM and now light rain with heavy rain early Fri AM.That should raise the local creeks pretty good for a few days.

Tuna close to 50% of snow has melted without much change in water levels. Everything's mostly open and flowing now. If the trend continues it may be just a 3-5k max out. Not 10 k like last year or 8 k the year before. If a drenching warm rain comes it will be real bad! will be surprised if water isn't bumped tomorrow night

3-5 K max.. geesh.. If a day sneaks in , I may have to take the truck for a ride and smell it all up, mostly a skunk I'm sure..
The crew is coming down for a work detail on the Mae and another vessel this weekend, I'm sure we will test out the 400watt stereo and burn some debris in the fire pit in the course of 3 days.. Dodging ice floes in the creek on a short boat could be a possibility also  ..
With the eastern (mexico) bay opening up, ya never know what may happen until the splash on the Mighty Hudson..

Weather the spring well, keep the mud on the tires and off the rug..

Thanks, Bro.  3 more days.  I'll have some pics and stories. Hopefully I won't get in a fight with a drunk Navajo like last year. Long story....  The DM and the camper will get hauled in fine shape. Seeya on the big  river. Creeks are up and colored, Hudson is opened up and moving- something I didn't expect until mid-April. Time marches, flies, crawls, moves in all ways, but always on. Spring is here. I don't wish for the river to blow out for anyone of us who wish to fish, but I'm kinda hoping the steel get a chance to flush out and end the low water snag fest.  I got the fishing jones BAD.

DB,

LO is almost all open only the eastern end had ice end of last week. And a lot of the snowpack sublimed, that is, evaporated from a frozen state to a gaseous state without the liquid intermediate, which is why it is gone without the big rise.  Down here we've got 1-2" of ice on the ground from under the snow, and this is likely to have to melt as to it denser than snow, I would think there was a lot more under the TH snow, so this runoff should last for a while yet.

Lucky I live in the eastern lake region and walked my property yesterday with 12-30+ inches on the ground still... Mostly an average of 16". Albion has 2-4 foot still. Went to Selkirk the other day and yes ice is still on the eastern end. It had actually broken off about 300' out from the east wind but was still thick. Even selkirk has an average of 2 foot on the ground(probably less from the past two days). Ground is still frozen underneath but slowly changing over. Plenty of run off to come. Its a matter of "how" it will come. There has been no major thaw event. Natural flowing tribs are showing the rise (oops did I just say that). Salmon river reservoir should be rising as we speak. Salmon river is tailwater and shows signs of flow increase mostly from just the dam. Its been well over 500 cfs for a while with the 350 release. Banks are still frozen though. It will change soon

We had more than a week straight of well below freezing weather with 2 below zero nights and no temps over middle 20's. Some days were very sunny though so that would explain the evaporation process.

Surprised to see large flakes of snow coming down when I got up at 6:15 AM. Turning into a nice day.  Hopefully the remaining snow will be gone by the end of next week but not looking forward to mud season.
Tuna-best of luck with the new wheels.
Charlie-enjoy the vacation.

We had a few large flakes and it was cooler today. Not much of a melt today.  Good news is I got the call from the county and they OK'd me and my wifes permit's so we may be going gun shopping soon. I am sure it is a restricted permit to ''outdoor''  type activities, but I will apply for the full carry after six months.

Congrats clint!!! Yes a waning day for run off. Top layer of ground froze right back up. Road tractor on ground I've had exposed for while today. Ground was solid frozen still just a couple inches down but water is pooling in low lying areas

Re:Weather thread 2015/03/31 17:08:35 (permalink)
About 1/2" of heavy wet stuff on the ground 60 miles to the south of Erie this morning.  Air temperature quickly warmed and turned the solid stuff to liquid stuff in a matter of an hour or so.  Rained a few light showers since than and there is a light/variable wind from the North.  O.A.T. hovering around 41 degrees F. as I sit in my favorite deer stand watching woodchucks scurry about the field.  Darn things are somewhat like a cat, in that, they know just how far to stay away from the old dog.

I'm hearing on my official 'Weather Channel Weather Radio' the temps. will begin to moderate starting Thursday and will continue into next week.  A quick check with AccuWeather on the internet appears to confirm the warming trend and the National Weather Service reports give further support to the forecast.  My optimistic outlook says................  Yeah right, heard this before!

How did all-yinz-all make out, 'mupp north', with this latest round of snow?

Hope all is well.

We've had snow showers on and off since I can almost remember...lol!!! Nothing huge accumulating though. Farm fields and slopes are going bare. My planters from last year are just poking out. They are 2 tiers of 8" block. My little cove is still holding 12-20 out back. More in the brush. There is still potential for major water!!! The lake region is thawing out but north and east town if Richland, town of Albion, and red field have a lot of snow on the ground. We are showing a warm trend for a couple of days and then back down to average and slightly below average temps. I think middle to late April we're gonna finally get our break up in these parts

Albion, PA. is where my sister-in-law and family once lived and I always thought the town to be a great place with friendly people except........... I swear,  It snows up there in the summer (lol).

A chilly start today but finally abundant sunshine and light winds are starting to dry things up a bit.
Figures, had all winter but now I get a stinking head/ chest cold.
The UFZ opener had to be a complete ZOO today .
Looks like thing are going back in the other direction, temp wise, for the Pulaski area. Maybe ( doubtful ) it will keep some fishers away Friday if I feel up to taking a trip up .
Going to be in the 60's here and I'm a bit Leary of the ice now
