I was more speaking of the curling shingles than the ice. Although I have always had ice issues with the house this year has been a bit worse. The back gets about a three inch build up do to exactly what you are saying. The front gets more of thru daming in the eaves. The back will get metal either way and the front will either be a strip off and new shingles with flashing on the eaves or metal

this thing must be contagious lol! I now have a Drip coming through my wood porch roof which is metal I believe it's probably ****ing over the flashing where it meets up against the back of my house. Clint I have a covered porch in the front and it has been an issue this year as it is just a huge hunk of ice sitting on top as it is not gotten warm enough for the snow to slide off. Very dangerous for when it warms up soon. that is the one issue with metal although it's standing seam will not hold the snow as well being that there are no screw heads on the surface

This may be the beginning to a severe outbreak of 'Eroofla' or possibly wide spread 'Roofluenza', I'm thinkin'. I'm gettin' me some of that "AS SEEN ON T.V. SPRAY SEAL" cause I can get two cans for $19.95 and............. it comes in matching colors! If I hurry I can get some special caulking free and, they'll include the special applicator tube at no extra fee!

Good luck on those slippery fish, HT. Hope you have a spot on the Ellie Mae for me sometime this spring. Can you night fish off the island on the right tide? Walk out at low? I think it's your year for another 40+.

Tuna I use to chase them all the time I grew up in Green Island. I will be starting the chase again soon but the spring sports keep me busy. But before you know it the kids are gone and grown and I'll be back. I know things have been tough the past few years. Bait=no fish, no bait = fish high and muddy waters. We can only hope that we have a slow melt and a drier spring and maybe the conditions will be good. Best of luck when you get out there.

Just surfing PA.511 and I'm sure happy to say I ain't out there skating around this afternoon. I79 from Erie south and I 90 from MM 1 to MM 46 in PA. looking like things may have gotten ugly in a hurry. 6N sure didn't look like it would be a fun highway to be traveling either. I-80 from MM 1 looks to be only wet heading East as the weather looked to have let up but, looking at radar, may be subject to some heavier rain coming out of the west. Couldn't get other areas to the East to load the cameras for a sneak peak of conditions out that way so, I thought I'd hit this board and be a pest.(lol) Speaking of weather, I just saw the NWS report for Friday through Monday and I'm happy to say the report for each of those days says something about sun shine! How exciting is that...................! With that, I've got to go, I'm going to search the internet to see if I can find out what........ a 'sun shine' is! Your friend; and mine, BTDT

Roads around here turned very ugly very fast, near 2" in 2 hours. They were dry when I finished playing a funeral this AM, but went to Hades in a hurry. Front window decided to start helping to water the plants this AM. Been hacking at the dams with small screwdriver and hammer for 2 hours, made about 8 feet, raking about a foot and a half of snow as well. Frostbite gets started in the fingertips and I have to take a break. Never did get out last weekend with clearing the other side of the house, but word is that Keuka is still on fire. SOL tales after I clear another 6 feet or so.

Snow, rain, snow from this afternoon until Thursday morning. If I had a choice I would prefer all snow. Three inches or more already on the ground but its supposed to change over to rain after midnight. I dread clearing the driveway with a mix of slush in the AM.

Started out as a beautiful sunny morning on an adk lake. No people, no shanty, no heat but no fish :( Afternoon turned cloudy and bit chilly, still no fish. Ride home just as storm hit blue line. Freezing rain now. Ride to work will suck in am. Still no fish :( Ps: L-13. From ice shanty reports , that place sounds like salmon silly season.

41 degrees at my house............. were havin' a heat waaaave........ we're havin' a heat waave! Anybody from the 'Burgh' area hearing anything about the Linden Creek being 8 ft. over flood stage at Linden, PA. NWS hydrological sight showing the gauges at 19.99 ft. with flood stage being 12 ft. Here's hoping the gauge is faulty! Good news for my area of Penn's Woods; NWS weather dude says we might, that's might, see 1/2 in. of snow from this next storm and we might see that thing called 'partly sunny' now, through next Tuesday. Happy days are here again..................... Oh..... you fellas having ice/snow problems, anybody ever try using high nitrogen based fertilizer for melting ice. It doesn't harm concrete, asphalt, grass or, the environment. Try it ya might be surprised.

The gage could be measuring water running over ice, or water pushed to a higher stage due to ice. All the gages in WNY are off due to ice. HT, they were talking about a small village out there, over 100 shantys on Saturdays. But it is a big lake and a large park where people are accessing, as long as the fishing holds up and the ice is good it will be crowded close to the park. Hoping to have the roof done by Saturday so I can try it on Sunday.

I'll second that Jerry and in about a hour I'll be out there slush blowing 'cause if I don't get the slush off my 200' driveway hill it'll freeze solid the next two days and then I'm stuck.Of course there is another 3-6 inches of snow coming tomorrow and then I can blow that off AGAIN!! But the SUN will be shining this weekend into next week with normal temps.

Greetings and Salutations, Lucky I'm thinkin' your right, checked the Hydro Sight later last night and the flood designation for Linden Creek at Linden was taken down. The creek makes a 'horseshoe bend' at that point and a stage of 8' over flood would surely be devastating to say, the least. NWS showing stages for the "Mon @ Grays Landing"; the "Yough @ Confluence" and; the "Loyahanna @ Latrobe" nearing and/or at flood stage this morning". No doubt the list will continue to grow, as will the degree of warning, until the cold air sinks south to slow down the 'melt off' and changes the rain to snow. Will be excellent if the river/stream/creek ice would break-up and free flow, beginning in the south and gradually working it's way upstream. Will be disastrous if, all this snow 'mupere' melts suddenly and, gozinta the rivers and streams, sending everything down stream first. Brings back memories of living in Franklin, Pa. and seeing the ice dams on French Creek, just above the confluence of the Allegheny; ice chunks the size of cars laying on Otter Street from the flooding and, the flooding of Oil City, PA. caused by ice dams at the confluence of Oil Creek at the Allegheny. Geeez.............. talk about reminiscing! Your friend and, mine BTDT

I crossed that river every night of the week (twice out, twice back) for 9 yrs., on my way to and from, hauling east coast freight across PA. I-80. Many a night I would wish I was fishing her subtle looking water. Then one night I got to see her wrath from, excessive rain. She can be testie to say the least.(lol)

left work with a chipping hammer in hand ready to battle on any roof ice dams. On the long ride I noticed much run off on top of the Mighty Hudson.. as I approached the tribs I seen flowing open water for the first time in 2 months. Pulled into driveway and the snow/mix actually helped my traction issues.. covered up the packed snow/ice so that was a Plus !! Looked at the roof and it was in great shape, I'm thankful for 12" soffits and great insulation.. Spring is coming folks !!! I even climbed under the cover and aboard the Daisy Mae which looked like it wintered over well.. Keep the slow melt coming ... Please !!

Harrumphhhhhh................................ I've been fortunate with the roof ice dams HOWEVER, while checking the roof, I notice water leaking from the area where the gutter down pipe connects to a leader. That water is seeping into the ground at the corner of the foundation. Sure hope the drain around the footer is working. I have the Superior wall system and I've not had any problems ("knock on wood" ) thus far but, once water finds it's way in to a basement, it can be difficult to stop. One more day of foul weather then we are suppose to see sunny to partly sunny skies into, sometime, next week with temperatures staying above freezing (daytime). Sure hope the weather dude is right; I don't know if I can take another inaccurate AccuWeather forecast.
