Back in 'the day' ya could go up in April and fish way out between bridges and hardly see anyone  else, cept for some boats coming through -that's changed.
But then--- if ya hooked up two a day back then it was a big deal.

I hope Charlie got out to enjoy the weather yesterday and a few tugs on the line as well, it sure was gorgeous here.
While its still bitterly cold out now, again, the sun is riding high and burning brightly so it won't be to long now.
That very sun has me dreaming about the upcoming season on the Daisy Mae . I'm window shopping for all kinds of gadgets and such . Eying the heck outta a new fish finder GPS unit.. Also I think the #1 purchase will be a full blown " good" stereo with an amplifier, got to have rockin' tunes on the Mae !!!
While I didn't really want to start my adventures up there / salmon country / until after the striper season ends , late may , I'm now considering trying for these spring browns that are talked about so much. Maybe a weekend trip or so after the hometown shakedown proves no issues. We shall see.

Ah, it's good to dream because sometimes, dreams do come true :)
Hope to see you guys soon

Thanks for sharing your dream... I'm living vicariously through your words right now...lol

Brutal today... Snowing for another consecutive day in February and barely above zero. Probably gonna go down as the only month of consecutive snow everyday along with the lowest monthly average temp ever recorded from what I've heard. Town pool has finally closed over at the belly of the pool and even when the sun was bright mid morning it just continued to close up.

Tuna -
They used to let us fish Browns off the  banks over at Ten Mile.
The boats caching browns out at the hot water outflow were regularly hooked up.
Some guys used to take row boats from shore just to get out there.
Havent been over there in many years but kinda would bet they had to cut off the shore guys and  lot parking since 9/11.

Yes the grip of winter is yanking us right back.. A balmy 2 above but when I left the JOB at 5, the wind bit hard..
2 very tough winters indeed, the years we will talk about for some time..
Now reality sets in and it seems a personal record for the least amount of time fishing the Salmon river in 35 years may be set as well by me.. I was heart broken over not fishing last April, now I'm just coming to realize the river and it's fish continue on the journey with out me..
By the time all this ice melts and I work out the projects I put off, my sights will be set on a fish of a different run..
The Striped Bass will be in my back yard in 60 days or less..
Time, time passes so quickly .. It seems like only yesterday 3-fan and I were floating down that river, only last week Jack, Charlie and I were chasing fish down river and sharing stories with Db, last month I took Rob on his first adventure to the Zone and not all that long ago My dad and I were waist deep in snow below Pineville..

Remember folks, It's good to dream . Someday I will be back living the dream of a Salmon River Steelhead again..
Stay Warm..

It is 0630 and the temp is -12  here factoring in the location of the sensor it should be around -16 out. We will see what the car says.

Lucky, according to our Muslim commander in chief we Christians were bad guys to,but then again it's all Bush's fault that we can't get near those plants anymore.
Here in SE Pa. it was -8 this morning, that is really cold for these parts, looks like next week it will FINALLY start to moderate.

-15 when I left this morning... But I think it may have dropped even more. 3" of fresh snow. Town pool should be closed up 100% in the next day or two

As for global warming... The "end" of our last ice age was approximately 12000 years ago And started approximately 110000 years ago...with the peak ice formation being only 22000 years ago. And many peaks and lows inbetween the duration...The time we've been recording weather patterns is like a spec of dust in our global jet stream ;)

Just saw the weather report for Sunday night through Monday and it made so happy I thought of singing a song.

I shoveled all of your stuff away,
And I cleared you off my walk ways
And I swore at you out of my heart,
Oh, oh,
Oh, oh!

(Chorus)
So how did you get here on my steps
I Swore that I'd never shovel again
Should've known better,
Than tryin' to let you go,
'Cause here we go, go, go, go again,
Hard as I try I know I can't quit,
Something about you is so addictive,
Your fallin' ever more nightly
You'd think that by now I'd know,
'Cause here comes the snow,

Here we go again!
Here we go again!

THE END
Not sure but, I'm thinkin' I've heard this song before.....................

3 to 6" forecasted for my area and may change to much more depending on how far the leading edge drops south.  You fellas up north and our neighbors to the east................  sorry about your luck!  Here we go again.........................

I am adopting the stance of Pafisher on all this ---- I HATE SNOW!!!!!

Ice- another story, hoping to head to Branchport tomorrow or Sunday for what is being reported as the easiest laker fishing on the planet, white tube in 100-200 feet drop to bottom reel back up, ice fish and drive home in under an hour.  By the time I get there it will be "ya should a been here yesterday!"  but it only usually freezes once in 10 years (this is 2 in a row), so I gots to take a shot.

Yeah off the roof now it's blocking the whole camera. How am I going to make it through the work day? That is the only way I can I make it full screen and turn the faucet on and I pretend I'm fishing. Now it looks like im looking in my freezer.

Re:Weather thread 2015/02/27 17:49:24 (permalink)
Well today was fairly nice and a heat wave in comparison. First day in a while the sun came out. I left work early to clear the ice from the front of the house,  the leak had stopped this morning and I had assumed it was because of the cold temps, but to my surprise there was no fresh water in the bucket when I got home. The ice came off pretty clean and I got it all cleared about ten feet up. I stopped when the sun went down and the water that was dripping started to freeze.  Tomorrow I will get a bit farther up and hope for the best. I am hoping with the rain this week the snow will come off the garage.
I will start taking bids on a new roof this spring. At ten years old I am disappointed at the shape my current one is in. I am hoping to go with metal, but with a Cape and the dormers I have a few valleys we will see what the roof guys say.

That blows Clint . My roof issue subsided when we had a warm spell in dec. I found an errant nail ( which I'm sure was stupidity on my part ) caulked it with super industrial stuff we have at job and so good so far.
Spring is on the way, really !!
We got another sub zero night but sun ( when out ) is strong.
With that will come a massive push to get everything done at once and MUD season .. YUCK !!
It's a toss up with me which is worse , snow or mud.

House was new 10 years ago. Got lot of curling shingles in the summer and many are cracked. I usually go up in the fall and look for nails that push through and stuff that would give me trouble, but this year with the surgery just did not get at it. Big issue is that I usually clear out the ice with the January thaw, but we did not get one. Our cathedral ceiling does not help either as not enough room to insulate.  Gonna build a new place in a few years and a heavy pitch, heavy insulation and no valleys with a metal roof are on the agenda.

I'll be fishing Oak Creek, just outside Sedona in 29 more days!  I use to hang there a lot when I lived in AZ. Camping on Oak Creek before we head into the big ditch again. Clint, 10 years is absolutely horsecrap. I see  asphalt shingle roofs that are 25 plus  I installed and they've had zero issues.  If you have any questions, I'd be glad to answer them.  I can't imagine building anything with less than a 9 on 12 in your area. Even that would have to be metal. If you have less than R-30 in your ceiling  (4 1/2" of sprayed urethane  or 5" rigid, consider having the roofer bituthane   the whole deck. Several grades are available from 25 to 70 a square.  Will prevent the back-ups, even with dams.  You can also purlin out the roof (sleepers) and add rigid insulation before you put on metal. You can add R-13 that way. Hey!,  next week looks like a warm up. Bout time.
