First ice I've seen, and my first winter trip , as it didn't break the freezing mark. I Imagine there's some ponds completely skimmed over up north. This is the backside of Stratton Mt. Vt.. Otters were still fishing. I guess I better get my ice act together, the river looks like slim pickings (thanks for the reports, Clint)...... I might go to Northern Ca. for steelhead in April, rather than the Grand Canyon. I know an incredible place....

We had torrential rain yesterday until after sunset. Didn't do much for our watersheds . Possibly another repeat this Sunday. . That will stink sitting in the woods , kinda glad I set the kill zone ice shanty up in the woods 2 weeks ago. While the year is not over yet but there is a chance this is the first time I have not fished in the salmon river since 1980 .
The weather, ugh, looks lto warm to me ..

You may have to go just to not break that streak. You spent plenty time out in the big water, though. Good luck in the woods, RJ.

True dat in the river fishing in a t and now around two inches on the ground. Put the garden to bed cutting the Brussels sprouts and last head of cabbage. Wind howled yesterday when the front blew in. They were a little of here as what we have now was ''supposed'' to be rain

I was surprised to wake up to 4-5" of the white stuff. Snowing hard as I type. So much for the prediction of a rain event with temps staying well above freezing.

4 plus inches with the wind turning 32 degrees into a "feels like" windchill of 18 here in my little piece if Penn's Woods.
Flurries forecast for the remainder of the day through tomorrow then back to moderate temps.
Tight lines to those fishing and good luck to those hunting.
From me and mine to you and yours.

Well the weather man whiffed good on this. We were forecast 9 inches and easily got twice that. 3 foot drifts and it is heavy. Had the morning from hell. Started last night check engine on my SUV. The am wife gets stuck half in and half out of garage. Plow truck pulled in that gets stuck. Get both out. Plow truck get stuck 2 more times and I pull the tow hitch right in half. Tractor out, blower gets clogged multiple times due to wet snow. Not going to work. Back in the truck plowing ok plow goes crazy angling on its own, by the time I figure it out its too late. Motor solenoid sticking open motor running non stop, melts connectors. Drive to Napa they are out of solenoids, but find a similar one, but its 60$ . On the way home get stuck in my sisters drive and have to get ashes from the stove and dig it out. Half way home my windshield wiper flies off so I take my sock off so the arm does not scratch the glass. Home solenoid on wires spliced Plowing again truck runs out of gas. Still snowing and blowing out, glad my new roof is on......

Well it seems to be winding down a bit. Altmar is probably at 3 feet give or take. We are close to that here. All plowed out and ready. Only got stuck one more time and when I was pulling it out the tractor got caught between gears. Pulled myself back to the barn with the bucket luckily it happens sometimes and it is a 15 minute fix but come on. These first snows are tough because the ground is so slick underneath. No less 5 trucks stuck in drives on the way to get the solenoid. Hopefully just a quick snowplow tomorrow and then redo the paths to the barn and coop.
