Rained last night and the night before
Grand total---5/100 of an inch.
At least everything got wet for the first time in a long time.

My Great Lake adventure got derailed last week due to no crew . The good time roll however . Weather has been spectacular here in Rhode Island and fresh foods from the ocean have come abound . Tomorrow I will try my hand at rod & reel here . Pretty amazing the bay boats that bring home some bounty . Also amazing the size of some of those cruisers that just beach up ..

WTH, stripers love clams, too.   This time of year, if you can get out at night, chances go up.  The clam beds are thriving this year up and down the coast,  commercial clammers I talked to are happy  as... clams. Good luck out there.  We had a great time last weekend, caught a ton of stripes, but nothing over 7 lbs. .  Get me a bluefish report, please. Time to tangle with some yellow eyed devils and they ain't showing on the Northshore, yet.

Hey fichy, I saw a report and pictures of Boston mackerel being caught in the eastern end of Long Island sound.  I have not seen or heard of this species or other mackerel in the western sound for thirty years.
HT, You might want to tie on a sabiki rig to gather all the bait you'll need for stripers and blues especially mackerel if they are around.

Guys that know what they are doing have been catching in the breach way and bay of quonny ( Charlestown ) .
While I tried , saltwater fishing is not my style, all I catch are rocks and seaweed .
With the overcast skies today , the clamming was great and that works for me .
A few more days here then back to the Great Lake adventure where I see the kings have begun to show

Rich--
Take a short walk up inside the Charlestown breach.
Just walk through the parking lot onto  the short path more or less in the middle to rear of the lot.
Will require crossing the first waterway- its not deep and the bottom looks muddy but is generally solid- but the Island there is great for fishing the main channel above the parking lot.
If schoolies or  harbor blues are in sometimes they can be had in the big salt pond on the back side of the island on the surface.
Have been rewarded there in the past- using white jig and pig. It can get real fast on the outgoing.
Also when crossing the channel above the parking lot there is a small pocket a few yards down on the island side that sometimes holds smaller schoolies.
If you prefer using a Yak there is a rental place by the bridge on the way to the Breach.
If you yak into the breach on the outgoing - HOLD ON- your going for a ride and it can really stand up some days right at the mouth- don't go in there.
The safest way it that happens is to keep to the far side from the lot all the way out.

Rich -another chance--lol
The breachway out of the pond behind Misquamicut--
Park at the bait shop or breach parking lot  and walk the North side all the way up to the bend between the waterway and the North end of the pond.
Its a couple of hundred yards up and you will see a tall grassy point of sorts  right where the pond takes its right angle  turn into the waterway.
Do this on the outgoing tide and use eels for bait - NO weights.
I might suppose large sand worms or even those fake scented eels or worms may be used- I like live bait.
Wear sneakers as the crabs try and eat your feet while standing on the grassy point in the inches deep water.
Best fished on the swing- casting straight out and drifting down and holding on the down end a while-- repeat.
I keep my bail open and feed line very slowly by hand here and there on the way downstream- then close it when its at about 3/4 of the way back towards the road.
Great Striper action some days.
This works any time of day - at the outgoing tide.

RI has many of those magic feeding lanes, and I've been running into RI guys that fish the SR and have took to using 2 handed rods to fish Rhody Flatwings, like swinging for steel or Atlantics, in the salt.  Pretty much what you described,Trev,  except with feather bait.  I'll file that spot away- haven't been to that one-maybe this fall. I'm about to bag the fall on the SR (except  1 trip early and later on for steel). Hard to turn down good times in the salt with less people, tons more real fisherman and hundreds of miles to roam in peace.  I really am getting too old to start swinging (fists not flies) and it's gotten very, very close in the past few years.  We'll see.

We dug in the mud when tide went out . Worms and clams galore . As far as people Charlie , it don't matter where you go . Turds will always be turds , they are here too.
Any rate , I filled my large cooler with fresh eats in 3 days with minimal effort and had fun doing so . Scared a few crowds off with hippy music .
SR , ah , I'm past that unless timing is right . Lazy troller I am now .

Ps those that still dream , pimp that river all you wish , Yankee snaggler, it's not a bad place just not my place .
Great Lake Ontario is nice

Pss. If I only had a quarter for every bs that big head tool puts up , I'd own a charter fleet out there

The much anticipated thunderstorms and rains came in like blockbusters a couple of evenings ago.
Fireworks and evening picnics cancelled all over.
Yeeeeep-- 2/10 of an inch came pouring down.
We are about to be in drought conditions if not already----
Everything is drying up.

Have fun and be safe everyone. Eat a Hamburg for me as I have to put in a good day at the hospital tomorrow. We baled up a few hundred today. The hay is thin this year as we did not get a wet spring, but we have  enough to feed out so all the rest is extra. For a public service announcement please everyone be careful with the boomers. Those in dry areas for fires and everyone don't pull a JPP and blow your reeling hand off.

Hot is right. I ran  wiring in a 2 story garage that must have been 125 on the 2nd floor. Odd thing, my area has very few deer flies, Clint. I expected quite a few, but no, and not that bad with mosquitoes, either.  I'll take it.

Some neat ideas for keeping these nasty suckers at Bay, if you don't mind looking like a conehead!  I may have to build one of those trolling rigs for my rides around the Hill!
