We've gotten a couple of storms like that in the last couple of weeks down here in WCNY, and some streams have hardly reacted.  Better than half the Gage houses in the state are red on the USGS map, indicating low water conditions, we could still us a couple of more inches (tomorrow and Wednesday, as I can fish those days and don't much care for dry flies in the rain!)

Lucky13.  Dry flies in overcast or wet weather = Blue winged olive hatch, a great time to be on the water.

This is true, if you can still tie size 18's and 20's to the leader.  Sulphur spinners was my target, and they take the night off when it is raining.  Been tying some big size 4 dries as well, planning to go chase unicorns for a couple of days.

With the weather forecast as it was , the Daisy sat idle in the driveway this weekend.
Cold rain & wind some major projects got done , some not expected.
Finally framed the base for a 10x12 tin shed I bought last summit and never put together, well it still ain't but at least it has someplace to go now .
Had a pretty big blaze yesterday in the rain . Chopped bunch of those darn wild thorn bushes too. Unexpectedly, camper got a new floor , boat got a new floor ( a center section I never replaced) and grandsons play room got a new laminate floor.
Geesh, I feel like the floor guy !!!

I haven't really seriously fished in over a month , way In withdraw as I'm dreaming of jiggin lakers on Ontario. Many things seem to take up so much time , never in about 40 years have I missed the spring trout in the ADK's:( :(

Hope this weather is getting some folks on their favorite waters

Bring a rod to RI for a change of pace, it fished well early and I think it's only gotten better. Blues are in, throw one on the grill to complement the clams. I'm surprised you skipped the Ausable , HT. Hey, you do WAY more home chores than I'll ever do.

Several inches low on rain this season and streams drying up to mid Summer levels is killing the trout fishing in small places.
Went to a bigger river last week and found fly guys in most of the holes--very low there too- nobody having much luck-- only those pesky little Atlantic fry everywhere.
What a waste of money and effort they have been for decades.
All they seem to do IMHO is run down to the Ct river and on into the sound just in time to feed the Blues and Stripers.

Rg, they abandoned the program in Vt, thankfully. Any remnants of hope for it disappeared with the last of the waters from Irene.
There's an abundance of fry and crayfish that I've never quite seen before and the bass are getting as selective and shutting off quicker than is usual for June.  Trout are feeding more in windows, too. Mid-days are sucking bad- more August than prime time. I'm hoping the coast will still be fishing well towards the end of the month when I get to go again. I might have to only fish at night, which is a rough go as I get older. One night up equals two days of being groggy and not all there. I was sorting through some galleries of photos and came across lots of steelhead pics. They did fire off some memories, and surprisingly none bad, with the exception of anger over  scenes from the  South Barrel.  It'd be a shame and a  personal regret if the river  fishery collapses.
I don't have that much invested, it'll be far more disheartening for others; and that's not even considering economics.
   Good luck out there.

Just came back from two days on the SR (low, fallfish, no unicorns), and the Central Tug Hill (extremely low, extremely bad deer flies, a few small brookies).  I'm planning to go back for a couple of days this week, but I'll likely fish the reservoir early or late, as it was brutal during the day, and it is probably a good idea to stop fishing the brook trout streams until we get A LOT of rain.

Re:Weather thread 2016/06/24 11:19:39 (permalink)
Welll- its still drying up here in  central Ct.
Watering constantly and the lawn looks like its in big trouble.
Cant figure it out but there is a real big abundance of little furbearers this year- Rabbits, bushy tails and chipmunks galore--more that I have ever noticed in the past.
Of course there are predators too like Yotes and Hawks. Have seen the Hawks take some bunnies in the back  yard and they are  flying all the time out back.
Hope  some young Turkey poults  have made it through as a wet Spring generally kills some off however the predators are out  big time this year.
Small brooks and streams are in late-dry August conditions.
Not much in the 10 day as far as rain goes.
Have quit Trout fishing as I HATE pond fishing - kinda like sitting there waiting for lightning to strike IMHO- and even the bigger rivers and streams are stressed- cept for the first and last hour of day.
Hope SR country is faring better and the Res has water in it for Sept- coming quick.
Missing my place up there, but not the mowing trips every couple of weeks.

Dry as a bone here in SE Penna.,have n't even considered fishing locally.Had to cut my visit to Ohio short as my Boxer dog had a medical emergency, she is doing better now but not entirely out of the woods.
As dry as it is here those poor people in WV and Va. are being swept away in floods,I was watching that on the radar and was wondering how bad they got hit......VERY BAD!!

Rivers here are  getting close to mid-August levels, Uglyfish got 74 on his thermometer in the Battenkill.  Trout is OVER.  We've been doing OK with topwater bass, though. Glad your pal Molly is OK , Jack.   Off to the coast  to chase stripes again for me, tomorrow.

Beautiful country pafisher, traveled many a mile running I-287 out of Parsippany to I-78 then hooking up with I-81 into our fine state capital.       Are ya close to the Bandit or Cabela's?

Allegheny was looking pretty low at Franklin and Oil City yesterday but, there was people enjoying themselves on the water trying to keep cool.

They had a release this weekend. although the res is in good shape, it could get ugly without some rain. Was hot, but the wind helps. We got 500 bales in the lay few days.

pAfisher I BeenThereDoneThat cause; N-E-S-T-L-E-S, Nestle's is the very best...........

Been 20 years since I traveled the Nestle Way and if I remember the old Schaefer Brewery which was Stroh's back then, is now Samuel Adams.

Clint, just mentioning "500 hundred bales of hay" makes me break into a sweat with this heat.   Neighbor to my north lost about 6 acres of hay a few weeks ago so I let him cut a part of my field and it was just delightful watching him bale the stuff, before hauling 20 rolls off to his place.

We are waiting for some thunder bumpers traveling across the Buckeye to get here in a few hours but, if the weather dudes are correct, most of the rain will dissipate before it gets here.

Yes it is Samuel Adams but I don't know if it is a beer facility,I think they make some kind of "fizzy" brew there, like a ginger beer.
Any way we might get a thunder storm any minute now, sure hope so as we need rain badly.

I am sure we got well over an inch of rain today it helped, but the deerflies are  ravenous after a rain. I brush hogged the back fields between showers and pushed some brush and pine trees over. Put the back hoe on as we have to dig a septic at my sisters.......
