10 to 20 for Oswego and Onondaga county by Tuesday night. Glad I have the next two days off. Maybe dad will get a chance to use his new plow.

We got about 3" in about 1.5 hours, stopped,  but if the wind shifts, we could get a bunch more.  And Poolaski  could get hammered off this one.

We got the some 3 to 4 inches in a couple hours. Looks like the band set up in Syracuse as of now. I am predicting well over a foot for this one for my location.
Everything is starting to lock up as far as ice, but most is not disable. Up north is faring a little better as far as the ice. This snow could put a damper on the ice forming. There are a few out here and there, but I will not go out on less than four inches of good stuff and I hate early ice too.  Better safe than sorry.  Hoping to get out next weekend....

Re:Weather thread 2016/01/18 09:00:44 (permalink)
6 degrees at my place, haven't checked the low for this morning, I'm happy to see the temps will be going up and not down.  My heat pump, like all others, doesn't do the energy savings thingy very well, below 15 degrees F.  That means my energy gulping auxiliary electric heat must fire up to keep me toasty warm.

We didn't get but a 1" or so of snow on the ground with maybe that much more forecast for today.  I guess my wishes came true regarding the snow staying north.  Forecast still calling for bands of lake effect to continue across inland Erie County along with much of Crawford County PA. which is north and, fine with me.

Wind chill advisories/warnings being posted for my piece of the Pennsylvania Wilds so I think I'm going to just hunker down and go refresh some old memories while "trying" to tie some flies.  Pulled all my tying equipment out of storage and set up a station in the cave and tried my hand for the first time in 20+ years.

Ha Ha Haa, what a hoot that was, I should be thrown in jail for some of the concoctions I ended with.   They were just..... horrible.

Wished I would of refreshed my memory before starting, especially since, the the ole fingers ain't near as nimble as once was.  Wasn't nearly as bad as it could of been, once I opened the vice, it was relatively easy to remove the hook from my finger.

Stay warm.

I'll be on Youtube and checking the Fish/USA fly tying tutorials to get me going in the right direction.

Anybody got any idea of how to slow the video speeds down so an old guy can keep up?

Dam those guys make it look so easy............  and I'm just talking about, the beginning knot????

Today was pretty brutal for those working or playing outside . Wind chill is a major factor to all living beings .
While the winter has been mild for the most part ( no local ice ) , I have been poking some holes in the north country . Wheelers and sleds are out on the smaller lakes up north . Laker lakes are just getting tight and that's my target this weekend .
Stay warm folks but please bring on the windless , snowless COLD air :)

12 degrees and the wind is ripping. The snow has started to fall but not horrible. Central square got a foot last night, some places to the south two feet. It has snowed hard all around me.

My local perch hole has ZERO ice . My laker waters are in shambles ..
The " epic" snow in the north east will not hit us at all here in the "north" east which I don't mind but the winds are thrashing any ice from forming .
This winter is TERRIBLE !!!!

The two computer models for my area are on opposite sides of the spectrum.  One says a few inches while the other says 28.4", go figure.  I guess I'll know when I wake Saturday morning.  LOL.

Guyz,  I just watched "The Weather Channel" web cast  (I know, my fault) and I ain't sure if they're speaking about this year or next year.  I'm pretty sure it's going to snow somewhere, sometime and, somebody somehow is going to get some snow.  TWC seems to be absolutely certain of the one model as they continue to refer to a empty shelf  and I guess if that shelf once held bread, then something occurring sometime, somewhere for, somebody is imminent.

Good luck to those receiving the wrath of Jonas because in the eyes of TWC  somebody, somewhere, sometime may, need a emergency delivery of bread.

I gotta go, I feel a migraine coming on.

Re:Weather thread 2016/01/23 08:33:51 (permalink)
HT we're getting some time on the ice here in my little piece of Penn's Woods though, I fear it will be severely short lived.  I'm thankful for what time there might be, having a great time with getting to introduce a buddy to ice fishing.  I fair warned him, before hand, he may not want to give it a try but he, insisted.  Made his first real trip onto the ice yesterday and now he want's to know if we are going back out tomorrow and he doesn't care if the fish are biting!

Temperatures to climb into the upper 30s and lower 40s with a day or two teasing 50 degrees along with high lows (is that a oxymoron?) in the 20s to 30s range.

Oh well, as they say in the old country, "we'll get em next year"  meanwhile the Fish Hawk stands ready, waiting patiently, for open waters.

Don't want to trash this thread so maybe on another board, I'd like your opinion on power ice augers, I have a manual and my azz is getting too old for that crap.  One is suppose to enjoy his time "SITTING" on the ice, not laying on it!

Be warm and tight lines...

PS. Watch out for the mammoth, monster, slamming, crippling, seizing, devastating, etc, etc. storm "Jonas".  It may bring a natural phenomenon known as snow, something the TWC people must have never seen.  There possibly may be some heavy snow dumped on parts of the country where snow storms are a natural occurrence.
