I've been seeing some impressive lake catches from the public media, hopefully it is a good sign. When do the smallmouth historically split the river? I've never hooked one in the SR, but have never fished earlier than the first week of Sept. I got roped into painting a large house with a huge porch with hundreds of turned balusters accented with metallic paint. The good thing is I'm 2/3 done, the bad thing is almost daily threat of thunderstorms. I have very little inside work booked in the next few months, I may take a bath.... PS At least in the format that I see, this thread has reached 100 pages!

Charlie, latest I've seen them in Altmar was labor day weekend around 4/5 years ago. Right now has been prime time some years for me. The high water for months on end I think has definitely messed with them. Have fun painting Charlie :D and happy 100th page everyone:)

Best of luck tuna. Lots of work for me till Labor Day looking like no days off. Was suppose to be off last Friday but got called in for a little while that turned to be a long while. Work made me break plans to fish with Charlie no more answering my work cell phone on days off lesson learned. Best of luck to all that get out.

Great time for clamming- saw folks this week in some of the Westerly area ponds on the off tides. Hope those Kings on the East end are a precursor of good news. Might be around early this week- Perhaps a chance at the smallies for an hour or so if chores get done and the weather allows..

I'm glad it didn't rain in my piece of the world. I woke up yesterday with a horrible stomach ache, a pounding head and an extremely sore neck and shoulders. Work was awful. When I got home I screamed at Nancy that i wanted to do Something , Anything other than more f'in work. We went to some ledges on the upper Hudson and I got a bunch of willing smallies on a deehair popper. I woke up this morning feeling pretty normal and did the estimates and drawings I needed to do, made a few phone calls , put on a coat of spackle on a home project, mowed the lawn, and now I'll go do something else. I have to laugh in amazement how a bit of decent fishing erased all the horrible side effects of obviously stress related pains. I made a point to make a campground reservation on the coast for the middle of next week. I have a feeling this week will go much better, attitude- wise. Have fun out there- it makes it all worth it.

HHH today, but did not make it pat 90 so not hotter than a cob. Rained just enough to ruin our hay production for the day. On a side note I killed 46 deer flies today while mowing the lawn. Literally I kept track...........

Man I spent the weekend in nj and the coolest day was hotter than the warmest temp up north. Few times the car thermometer read over 100...107 was the highest. I will take the deer flies any day over heat like I just experienced!!! Lucky you are right... They will draw blood without barely breaking stride!

It hasn't rained here in a month to any measurable amounts-today we got a 10th or two and hopefully more tonight-not enough, but anything is good- about time. Been watering flower beds and a new strawberry bed like crazy lately. Some leaves withering on my apple trees. NOT like Pulaski where it seems to rain like heck almost each trip this year--cept the last quick one day swoop- that day rain just missed my place and got Clints hay-lol.

Had a hum dinger here last night, lot's of booms and a heavy deluge. I have not had to water once this year. The grass has just started to slow down a bit and we have finally got the majority of our hay. My Corn started to tassel last week and the first ears of local corn are showing up. Frogs and slugs are abundant this year too.

Yes we are in a more typical pattern now. Boomers and an occasional sprinkle. The corn is loving it. I canned 10 # of beans last week and should pick more fish week, my squash and cukes are behind schedule but I have some every day. Last yer at this time I was making pickles. This year only one or 2 cukes a day are ready, but slot are on the way.

Just visiting my 'pumpkin patch' (total of six pumpkin and, three acorn squash plants( )) and I was just delighted seeing all the honey bees. There are so many around, the buzzing is actually loud, what a great sight. Not sure where they came from, maybe a near-by Amish dude raising honey bees, just a wild nest or, possibly a swarm wanting to relocate. Regardless of the reason, it was/is great to see those little critters buzzing around. Just not a common sight for the past few years, what with, the loss of so many bee colonies. Good thing, if the bees are looking for a new home, swarming is likely to occur anytime of the year and not necessarily triggered by the coming of winter. Is it?

Taking the family tot he Fulton Chain for the annual 2 weeker starting Saturday, so the way my luck with weather goes, you can figure it will either be too hot to hike or pouring. I don't care, if it is too hot to hike, I'll fish early and snorkel in the PM, if it is pouring, I'm going to try parking the canoe over 80 feet of water in Seventh Lake, and drop shotting with some 3 inch plastics. What Lake Trout eat in the Finger Lakes should work in the 'daks as well, and Seventh is not on any advisory lists and has an 18" size limit because the NYSDEC surveys say there are too many Lake Trout. Just gonna do my part to thin the herd, like Burger King and McDonalds are doing for us! The last few early runs have been happening when I returned, so as Dime says, it is Salmon Season. This is the rough time for those of us who don't care much for the kings, we still have some waiting before the rustheads make up a good proportion of the run. L13

Have fun lucky... Dry as dry round here... Tribs to the north are puddles... My spring ditch creeks are dry and yes btdt I am noticing many more bees this year... But I still have about 50 vacant nests around my home and out houses that will hopefully show some life next year...
Lucky, about a week ago there was a large pod of kings between the salmon and the dunes in shallower water than most would think... And there were a lot if rustheads with them... It could be a good early push of them like we saw in 2001... 2 years after the horrible run of 99 and a sub par year of 2000... We hit a large run of kings sep. 1st through the 3rd... There were 20-100 pods of steelies mixed in with that run of early kings

Dry as a popcorn phart here-grass turning brown everything looks like its doing poorly. Several inches below the norm this summer already. Don't recall my brook going dry in my lifetime but it aint far from it right now. Never got the predicted night storms the other day after a 10th or so in the AM-dried right up. Did 18 bout 15 miles North of here where the hills start yesterday and they had much damage to the course from several fast inches a few weeks ago- those hills to the north are lucky this year- those of us on the flats are getting zip.

My grass is growing like crazy, no summer burnout yet. The garden is a different story. I never planted a lot of things after the resident woodchuck pillaged my pepper and tomato plants. I haven't had the time or heart to put a .22 up his sorry behind. He watched me the other day as I was weeding. I had a baby woodchuck wander into my garage the other day looking for a free meal from the bags of wild bird seed. Time to start plinking the little buggers before they get out of hand.
