Yough dam outflow
Anyone ever fish this area? I heard some good things about it and I'm wanting to try it out. The only thing is I don't want to commit to a 45 minute to an hour drive and not like the area lol.
What do you normally catch there, and what is your bait selection?

Pelletheads, odd walleye, smallmouth and suckerz. Use whatever in the ream of pelletheads

Mossy; our best fishing was mid-winter last year. I've seen it great and I've seen it bad. The bad has been my last two trips in late Nov. It's worth a trip to check it out for the first time. Don't wait for Spring.

i fished it last winter ya i was a nut job standing in the snow, we tossed everthing some real good days some little 9 incher days. not trying to withhold info but i mean we literally tossed everything castmaster to trout magnet to maggots spin cast flies name it. watch the baskets along the one side they have many dollars worth of my lures

Was there yesterday. Nothing going on. A few very small escapees were caught and released by another fisherman. Got out of the rearing pen. Just like last year. No fish rising in the afternoon. Got tired of casting and left around 3.

Seeing I'm 16 years old, pay all my own bills including my own gas, and still in school, thats a pretty big commitment to me.

Seeing I'm 16 years old, pay all my own bills including my own gas, and still in school, thats a pretty big commitment to me.
Got ya, you hadn't mentioned being a teenager. In that case, two things: 1. You won't know what you like until you try different areas of different rivers & streams. And 2. It's worth it.

Save your money and gas till May/June when its better fishing unless you really wanna go and try, just check the river guage before going, it looks like there letting out a good bit of water right now. Laurel Hill, Meadow Run and the Loyalhanna are other good options also, i've been making weekly trips to the Loyalhanna and have doing very well the past 3 weeks.

Loyalhanna sounds like a good option. Maybe I'll try to get out there this weekend, depending on the snowfall.

Good luck at Loyalhanna or Conemaugh till the end of winter/mid spring... Unless you don't mind fishing raging torrents.... Loyalhanna: http://waterdata.usgs.gov...is/uv?site_no=03047000 Conemaugh: http://waterdata.usgs.gov...is/uv?site_no=03044000 Loyalhanna is a pain to fish near the dam when it's over about 250 (if you're on the wall) if you're wading I'd say probably no more then 350 or so depending on your judgment... And Conemaugh well idk anyone who wades near that dam even when they are only letting out the summer minimum...

Ive fished the Connie at the dam and had moderate success with a variety of fish.

I've always believed it was worthwhile in the spring and this time of year also. If it doesn't pan out for you, take a drive up the mountain and hit High Point Lake and of course you also have Loyalhanna and Laurel Hill. There are plenty of places to fish and they're within a short drive of each other. And if that doesn't do it for you, hit the buffett just south of Hidden Valley on the right. Can't remember it's name offhand, but it will make you happy!
