Steelhead trip Monday 12/3..is it worth it?

Thanks for bailing me out...lol. To be honest i'm simply not knowledgeable enough to be of much help over the internet.

ok...wasnt tryin to be rude or anything man. I've only been doing this for 3 years, but had an awesome teacher in my step-dad. He taught and showed me everything but things like names of parking areas, names of roads, names of certain holes, etc. I guess everything BUT names. I know how to get pretty much anywhere on Elk/Walnut, but I simply couldnt explain how to get there by way of street names or parking areas, other than the access points.

click on "angler maps" on the main page of this site.  They are very helpful.  U can get almost anywhere with a little knowledge of route 5 and route 20.  

I'm the polar opposite. I've never set foot in a East side trib. Fished the West side to death though.

I cant this trip your doing, but we should seriously consider fishing a few times together someday. We could show each other where to fish on the sides we know.

 i am curious if it is even worth the trip up there.

 
no one can answer that  for anyone but themselves .
That's why that question gets ridiculed  and scoffed at when asked
'cause to some it's "worth it" any chance they get
to others it's  only "worth it' in ideal creek conditions  and  a bazzilion fish everywhere they go

as long as  the sun rises in the east, there will always be fish in the creeks at this time of year
Late Oct to late Dec is the "peak" of the season
 
whether there are "enough"  fish this season to be "worth it" is a question only  the individual themselves can answer
 
 
 

or better yet how is the water flow and level?

 
nearly all the PA creeks are so shallow and hard bottom that whenever there is no rain for a few days, the creeks are back  low and clear
After a full week of no rain, the flow is minimal and even the deeper holes become gin clear to the bottom
 
truth is, it doesn't matter what the conditions are now....cause by Monday they might be different .
Showers are predicted tonite (30% chance ) and Sunday...60% chance .
the only "predictable" thing is, it won't be "worth it" if they're blow out Sunday night  due to intermittent    "showers"  becoming  an hours long  deluge down pour ...unlikely,but possible
 
so the weather stats and flow charts will be your friend

that is a positive note...hopefully it will work out for the better tomorrow.  need all the rain up there you can get to bring fish in.

Walnut is starting to get some color to it. Coming up a little bit.  Anything is an improvement right about now.
 

i got my sacs tyed up nnat!  Im tying them as i watch this horrible game.  Steelers offense makes me want to use words and take actions that are improper and illegal.  

And those creeks will be in perfect shape for fishing by lunchtime tomorrow, if not earlier....

Maybe but if you wanted to fish today and did not, than you made a mistake by not going. The smaller tribs were beautiful today.  Elk will fish well tomorrow, although you will be fighting 20-25 mph wind with rain/snow, it was 60 degrees today
