We got about 10 inches last night here.   Most of it melted today.   55 over the weekend and early next week...........

That melt must be good for triggering those steelies runs? How's it been overall so far? I can't think of fishing, too much Sandy $ down here to be made. Cheers and be safe!

The river has been running about 100 CFS higher than the advertised 335 cfs the last few weeks.   It is now running 475CFS.   About perfect in my book.   I personally have had a good fall already getting into more  than last year.    I was pretty much a newb last year so I would expect to be up in #'s.   Overall in talking to some guides and others the fishing is a bit slower than last year, in part to the low water and the fish being put through the gauntlet.   3 or 4 of the fish I caught had some sort of hardware on them.

Keep em coming clint :) youve definitely had some good action bud... as far as flows, the mean average for todays date according to the pineville chart is 1250!!! Man i wish the river could get back in to its groove of the past. Hopefully theres some promise with the possibility of rain on sunday. Some forecasts are saying 3/4 inch of rain.... that coupled with the snow could change things real fast

Yea higher flows would help...we sure don't want to see the flows go to nothing like the erie tribs, then after a few years of no flow the fish just don't run the rivers
then what the heck would i do all winter!?!?!

Speaking of Erie tribs,I was looking forward to visiting "Steelhead Fantasyland" this fall but the lack of water has made me cancel those plans. Those streams are a trickle at present and need a SERIOUS rain event to get a consistent flow, not much fun in catching Steel in a bathtub!

Goin NUTS- dont see myself up there for a while- NEVER been away so long. My poor house must miss me.
Keep up those reports Clint- look forward to them.
Good thing didnt get up there yesterday as hoped for- NEW furnace here quit last night- woulda been another quick turn around and fishless swoop.
On the flip side Deer huntin here has been great and Muzzel loader starts Wednesday. Life is tough.

I would agree Bear- Not having been there for the continued Follies one may well think that the increased pressure and SR lifting lollapalooza didnt help much with FISHING.
Am not glad I missed it but I'm glad I missed it- lol.

It's encouraging to see snow, possible other wet weather events and , hopefully, a continuation in to cold, snowy conditions and the crowds in the gauntlets disappearing. At least during the mid-week.  I'll go up the end of this coming week, hopefully to some decent conditions.   1,000 cfs and 10 degrees would be fine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!    335 and 50, I won't spend the gas money at this point. I hate it.   Long term doesn't show cold, but it does show hope of raising the releases.   I know the majority here prefer to  skip the winter steelhead  season, but I work outside, have spent lots of my life in extremely  cold, snowy places , so its just another day to me.  I'm grateful to stand in a river waving a rod. It's what I live for.

Hey Charlie- whats your take on the new wall in the LFZ ??- recall conversations here about it very early before fishing. Dont  fish that hole myself too much but it looks kinda inviting.

Uhhhhhh......   to me it's the town pool.  I won't fish there again. I did because HT and Clint did, but not my cup of tea.I couldn't take it and split for home early both times. Doesn't mean it's not good.   It still has the same capacity as prime holding water as before the change.   There's a seam along the wall- the top and bottom are the prime, a few obvious current breaks in between. Easy to fish. Might be tough with cold temps, high water  and little weight  in the  head where it falls off the ledge into a holding spot.  It'd be a good spot for you to check out on those days when it's snowing and no one's  around. Watch them steps! They're going to be hell to come down when it gets icy.  Long handled net would be good if you're alone.  Now a second tier of rocks allow you to get down off the path- another few hundred cfs and that'll  make it a little dicey.   The tail's probably the safest bet.  The wall  made that pool very park-like;  it reminds me of a stocked pond in the middle of a city, complete with toddlers and dogs.   Still, a very productive place.   Nancy actually attended the church of the church pool a few weeks ago.  She said the people were very friendly, including the Ellis family, as in Ellis Cove.  I'm more apt to be struck by lightening just parking there......
I belong out on the Niagara in the Devil's Hole. lol
Bear, I have no doubt I'll run into you on some cold morning with the fog coming off the water.  Or it snowing like hell.  Prime time.   Be glad to meet you.

its not fishing in the cold i mind.
i'll be doing that but won't drive 2 hours maybe 5 each way in a whiteout to do it.
its fishing to logy fish that leaves me cold.
they are still awesome fiosh but definately not the fish they are in 50 degree water.
its like driving a ferrari with regular unleaded gas.
still a ferrari but not the same as on high octane racing fuel.

I give permission to call me out on this whine but I thought we fished there from a decision we both made..
Oh well, I'll still fish there but from the north side is where I feel the best presentation can be made from..

Sorry to not keep in touch as the last 2 weeks have been all outdoors for me, work, play and more work cutting food.. No real time (now included) to sit down here or at the J.O.B. and write something that could possibly be meaningful, not that I do anyway..lol
Alas, my time is short again as just finished loading the truck for another two days outdoors hunting sun up to sundown and I'm sure cutting more meat monday (still 1 on the hook) ..

It's not the weather, it's slightly the fish as twobob said, but more so now the other factors..
I'm a happy camper spending time with friends "on" the water catching fish , eating food and B.S. about our adventures.. Besides they taste good with venison..
Stop fishing just because it's cold outside ?? NEVER !!

Be well friends as I have a holiday party to attend tonight .

fichy like i say i'll still fish them.
they just don't get the rise in blood pressure fall fish do.
experience?
you've caught enough of both to know what i'm talking about.
i'm just lucky enough to have water within 10 minutes drive where i can catch them.
other than the overcrowding its water may be better for winter fish than the sr.

many like yourself don't have that luxuary.
