My buddy has one and hates it...  Kicks himself in the arse every time we go because after the 2nd or 3rd trip the bait runner just kinda spins whether it's engaged or not...  makes for a mess.  I myself went and bought a Cabelas salt striker and haven't had any issues they seem more rugged than the Avengers but that's just my 2cents...  I can't say it's junk or great but I've picked his up to tossed it to see what it's like and to me it's another reel aside from the aforementioned issue with the bait runner feature and slightly less sturdy than I'm use to...

I believe that the salt striker baitfeeder is made by okuma. If you look at them, the bodies are almost identical with  the exception of some minor differences.

Yep.   Salt striker is a cabelas exclusive and is made by okuma.  The parts schematic and list for the Okuma "epixor" baitfeeder reel is used to order parts for the ss.   Same reel...just slightly different cosmetics.    The epixor is the next model up pricewise over the avenger.

I have a few SS's, in the size 60 model and very happy with.

Also have a few okumas have had no issues with.

My Avenger was delivered this weekend. It appears to be pretty nice. I have a Cabelas SS in a 50, that has worked great since I've owned it. Guessing 12 years, although much of the silver paint is gone. Hopefully it is the same bait feeder mechanism, as mine never had any issues. I have it loaded with about 100 yards of 50lb mono backing 300 yards of 40lb Powerpro. It holds about twice of the 50. I was debating the Epixor, but wanted to give business to FishUSA, who only carry the non BF series. Also, line capacity from the largest Epixor to Avenger is a pretty big difference.

I have both the okuma 90 bait runner on a 7'0" heavy ugly stik and abu 5600 with the clicker on a  cat fish fight stick And they both do well   and get the job done. As mentioned earlier it really is just personal preference . The 90 is quite a monster in size and  is heavy. I can throw a 7-9 inch bait fish out 40-50 yards on either. the drag on the 90 is fair at best compared to the 5600 is real smooth. I just  bought a couple Penn Phantom's 25 series they are AWESOME!!! put them on the Okuma 8'6" classic pro copper and lead core rods, But they do just fine throwing 80# power pro Braid. The Stainless eyes are very visible at night with just the stern light.
