Spoon, "f-en" is not a word or a proper representation or abbreviation of a word. I believe that "f...ing" is the proper way to reference a vulgar word. Birddog, this is also a way in which elipses can be properly used.

Here's the funny part: an author has the right to intentionally misspell words, misuse punctuation, or make any kind of grammatical errors that he/she chooses. Of course, this is meant to cover those that use these errors for some kind of intended effect. If you just misspell a word by accident, then I guess you are stupid. At least, that is what some people seem to be inferring. I won't mention any names here, but *sniff! sniff* I think I'm coming down with a cold...

I hope not. I'd like to fish in some colored water before the snow flies. My last trip was a bit of a challenge with clear, low water. I still caught fish (my first Erie brown!), but I didn't slay them. I had lots of fun though and that is all that really matters.

I must confess that lately I have been daydreaming about catching a steelhead through a hole in the ice. I hear people talking about it and it just seems so amazing to me. I can't imagine fighting one of these fish on a 2ft rod!

Really starting to think genieman77 hasn't ever seen the streams.

I haven't ....not in a couple weeks anyway

He repeatedly says that the run is off or has already happened,

no sir, I never said anything like that.
please don't read "more" into my posts than is there ...
Fish will continue to run all thru Dec

what i  said was ...(and I'll try to be more clear)   when 2000 fish come in, within a few days  2000 and one get roped or die from being played for the third  time in a day and/or miss handled.
I also said, if it isn't "worth it" to c'mup in mid to late Oct  (because they don't think there's "enough fish"  or waiting for someone to spoon feed them when  the supposed  "motherload"  gets here )    don't bother making the drive, cause they'll likely be disappointed

nothing more, nothing less

Really? Oh. That's disappointing. I was imagining 20+ minute fights with theatrics upon landing. Darn.

I do not know much at all about steelhead, but here is something that I have been pondering: since steelhead return to the creeks that they were born at two years of age, is the lack of steel that people are talking about caused by something that happened two years ago or this year?

typically people come to this forum to see if it's worth it for them to make any type of drive to try and catch them.

Good lord, Frank...do you read the reports page??
Do you see all the reports that say it was great and "worth it"  right next to the ones that say it's NOT "worth it" ??
They're all fishing over the SAME fish.
You know the  ONLY thing  that "proves"?  It proves that what's "worth it' to one angler isn't  "worth it" to another

'ell, Frank, it's "worth it" to me to fish the first week of Sept when there's only a handful of fish

still proves that if you want a real answer, it's best to skip the first few posters and stick with it until you get a reply that counts.

which one's "count"?
What's the criteria ?
Our resident local and good man Cbealger has been counting fish for you since the season started

"How does the latter, invalidate the former? " means that if I or anyone asks for conditions and all you get in return is that "the run is off" -

I haven't seen that Frank.
could you point out anyone that's said that  'cept some "no nothing" that made that goofy comment in the reports page a month or so ago?

you should probably just take the chance and drive up .

EXACTLY !!!
It's LATE November, Frank!!!!
If anyone is still waiting by now for someone to tell them it's "worth it"...they should stay home or hire a guide.
cause if it ain't  "worth it" by this time of year, it won't be anymore "worth it" a week from now or a  month from now when the creeks are iced over

most likely
However, the decline in numbers happened several  several years  ago (Ohio too)
"One" of the most likely factors for that (I "speculate ") is due to the epic walleye hatch of '03 maturing  and munching on the smorgasbord of smolts every year
makes sense  to me anyway, cause while the numbers dropped (but stabilized) the average size increased at the same time.
Suggesting  to me, there were/are  less steelies in the lake competing for steelie food ..and they ate better to get bigger

Re:Fish returning to lake? 2012/11/21 02:02:56 (permalink)
Is there really a lot of competition in the lake for steelie chow, though?  I would have speculated that the lake has more than enough small fish to satisfy the needs of the predatory fish.  That is a pretty solid argument though.
So, guys going to the creek mouths at night, in the Spring to fish for walleye that are munching on smolts is a real thing?  I kind of always thought that that was a rumor or that only one was caught by that method once in a blue moon.

It's a trick, to keep people away from the gravel pit ponds. That place is killer in the spring.

Very real.  But those walleyes aren't just feasting on the smolts a cast length from shore.  All over the lake whenever they find them, in shore and off shore.

You are correct. My mistake.  But speaking of punctuation, what is the (...) thing? I never learned that in English class. :)

They are called elipses. They indicate that something is being omitted or a thought is trailing off. I use them liberally and with poetic license...

HAHAHA!

Actually ellipse is spelled with 2 l's... and it's a math thing  ellipsis is the grammatical thing...

Ah, a spelling mistake. There are two "L's" in ellipses. "Ellipsis" is the singular; "ellipses" is the plural. This is a prime example of how a simple misspelling can change the entire meaning of what you are trying to say. Good job BD.
