Daughters 1st hunt

I too love the Mentor program, it gave me a chance to get my 8 year old daughter out
for her 1st kill. She worked so hard all summer learning 1st gun safety then how to shoot. She was rewarded with her first squirrel, I don't know who was happier me or her ! The state got something right this time, it's a nice program.

    Thanks,
I'm a little leary about taking my daughter out in the woods when there are a million idiots out there with high powered riffles and they only hunt 1 or two days a year.  If I would have realized the changed the regs to allow for the donation of an anterless tag to a mentor. I would've had her out early for the JR season. MY bad !!!! She's gonna have to wait a few more years to go out in the woods in regualr firearms season.
Yes, I know I'm being over protective, however ! My wife and I have  already lost one child and I'm a little protective of my other two. So I will have to wait and see how I feel at a later time.
But thanks for the praise, she had a blast.

    JEB,
Your not alone.  I feel the same.  I was gung ho about taking my son for the first day until I hunted a gamelands I had my eye on last week.   I Was overun with guys that had no considerstion to go around(squirrell hunting/scouting).

In addition,  half of the hunters sighting in their deer rifles at sampson road scared me a bit to decide to go to PI for ducks instead.

Next year I'me going to knock on some doors to avoid the mess.
