Coyote Gun ??

I hear alot of debate on this with some other forums and between my buddies.. It's kind of like a truck talk. BUT i will ask anyways. I am leanining towards a 22-250 possibly savage because i heard the remington 700 is junk. But others tell me to lean towards a .243.. I don't plan on shooting more than 300 yards in a given circumstance. I will more than likely want to get a lumminated scope as well. My budgets is around 800. I'm not looking for something for looks i want something that will lay the hammer down on some yotes. I am always looking some something used if anyone has a predator rifle. Let me hear some opinions

Unless Remington has really gone downhill in the last decade someone gave you bad info. I also never thought much of the Savage but to each his own.  As for caliber, anything from a 222 to 270 is fine for yotes. Get a bolt action.
If you intend to shoot a lot the 223 ammo is easy to find and would be less expensive than many others. Maybe a 223 with a 3-9 or 4-12 Nikon or Leopold. Don't know much about the night vision scopes.

    Savage all the way

Big Green is a shadow of its former self...Remington is now part of the Freedom Arms, which is owned by a private equity firm; Cerberus Capital Management

    Confused yet? lol

Yes...the bean counters at the Private Equity firms find ways to cheapen up the product line and betting on the fact you will buy a Remington cause it says Remington on it

Look at this way...Cerberus Capital Management is not a gun manufacturing company..its a company in the business of making money.

I was never impressed with Savage but the new accu-trigger models are ok
I went crazy buying varmint rifles a few years ago and bought quite a few of them.
Any major brand should be ok starting out.
For scopes bigger is usually better 50mm or larger, my ATN was 75mm
Commercial loads should be good out to 300 yards and some of the premium loads will go way beyond that
22-250 might be better out past 500 yards but 223 should be good
If you buy a stock rifle getting a trigger job or dropping in a target trigger will make a big difference.
My Remington 223 and 22-250 both have rifle basics triggers set at around 5oz
AR 15 A4 elite and H&K PSG-! sniper rifle were set at around 8oz to prevent doubles

I heard several years ago that Remmington had two separate lines, one for the guns they sold at Walmart and such and one that they sold at gun stores, and that there was a difference in quality. I have some old Savages that I really like and newer ones that seem lower quality. I would stop at any gun shops that you drive past and check their used inventory you can occasionally pick up a real bargain on a good unit. Browning, Ruger and Winchester are my preferred brands of manufacture, mostly older ones though.

Remember, opinions are like A-holes... everybody has one, some are better than others and there are lots of them here...

Curiosity killed the cat, but for awhile I was a suspect.

    Not selling the Remingtons
You're too late to buy PSG-1 It was sold a few years ago for $6500 without scopes
You might of liked this one also

I bought this for shooting coyote and deer around the runways at Greater Pitt Airport but sold it after 911 because I was no longer allowed there.

22 was sold and there are a few offers on the 17hmr
17HMR is good to about 175 yards but scope is too powerful for night use
I put this together for rimfire turkey shoots

    It is for sale

Dunham's will be having the Savage Axis in .223 for $269 during black friday! Was thinking about taking the Bushnell Scope off and putting on a Barska 6.5x12/20 something like that ($100 at Dunhams)

If you want to use a 22-250, then go for it. It's a good gun. Buying a gun is like buying a car. You know what you want, then you start looking at other cars and you start comparing. I would use it too.
