    looks like a hybrid between a brown and a steelhead. I don't think that's possible, but that's kinda what it looks like. Strange.

    Looks like a juvenile brown...wish I could see the tail better.  Definately not a laker.

    I can't find a picture of a lake run juvenile brown...they're as silver as a steelhead, but I'll admit I've not seen one with a belly that bright yellow before.  I've been catching a lot of young browns in the lake the last 3 years.  Those dorsal/adi spots scream brown to me, and looks nothing like a coho to me...but I could be wrong.  I haven't caught a coho in 15 years.

    I like to count anal rays...
    coho = 13-15
    brown = 10-12
    plus, the mouth color looks like white on white.
    coho would be black mouth / white gums

    Which trib did it come out of?

    Totally random thought...could it be a stocked Brown that ran into the lake this past spring and returned?

    Odds are that it didn't, but it looks like Brown to me, because the more I look at it, the more it looks like Brown cause I've caught some stockie browns that were a bit yellow in the belly

    Are "anal rays" what you catch when sunbathing bottomless, and bent over your beach chair?

    I'm not arguing with you Paul, but keep in mind brownie tails are more forked in the juvies and square off as they get older.  I can't tell by your photo how forked it is.  Also, the coloring pattern of lake run brownies is different than a typical river or stream stocked brown.  They seem to look more "salmonlike"  before they mature and "color up".

    In fact, the first year I got into brownies when trolling I admit I had a hard time figuring out what I was catching because the smaller browns had no typical brown trout markings except black spots on the upper part of their bodies and fins and were bright silverish white...basically just like your photo with a much paler yellowish belly on some of them.

    I'm certainly not an expert in salmonid/char/trout identification...just running strictly off of personal experience I gained when trying to identify my own catches.
