It's open, but they have been closing it periodically, to do finishing touches, if it's closed, go down around Walnut access and go back up the road (Dutch) and it will take you back to Rt 5.

When I was there a few weeks ago, the detour was away from the lake, and had signs "no through traffic" down to Wal-o-nuts.  I wanted to go see the circus, so I wasn't through traffic...  I'm sure you'll be fine if you stop and buy some peanuts or cotton candy, it's worth the detour regardless.

My last trip up with the boat I got behind a couple of shall we say over weight older folks on their bicycles riding up the hill going west. I had to come to a complete stop, with a line of cars behind me, as they barely crawled up the hill. Couldn't pass as it is a blind hill. When we finally got up to where you could see to pass, I opened up the cummins and swerved WAY over and went around. As I looked in my rearview a car had pulled out to pass and the woman swerved her bike right in front of the car and narrowly missed getting run over. I'm sure that the folks that live in that area don't like all the thru traffic and are probably glad that the boating season is over. Still has to be a ton of traffic chasing steel tho... Hard to believe how long some of these bridge projects are taking...

Curiosity killed the cat, but for awhile I was a suspect.

pretty sure if your coming from the West down rt5, you can take a left on Dutch rd, and follow the whole thing around to where it comes back onto 5, dont follow the actual detour signs.

Must have been a really long train, considering the speed they run through there!

Naw...my place is literally 100ft from the tracks...they are doing at least 50mph 90% of the time. Shakes my bed actually.

I thought it was a law that they had to slow down passing through towns.

    No such law.
That's why they don't look kindly on tresspassing!
