no..i think the amount of sun light is more of a factor that triggers their bio clock to "look for love".... in all the wrong places

In the overall scheme of things, that's true. Remember though, that alot of them don't start to "look for love" for several months. So the drive to run is there, but not all compelling if conditions aren't right.  There's a reason large numbers of fish can be found on the lake front Sept through October, or even Nov-Dec.  Then think of those fish, and numbers. Are all those fish "staging" out front, actually staging? Or did they follow the bait that moved in due to water temeratures? You'll find fish all along the lake shore early in the season. Not just at the creek mouths.  So, are they "staging", or feeding?

    donno about that one, Spoonie
i'd 'guess' they're feeding for the most part .
and I'm sure some of the hungry ones follow the early spawners looking for an easy egg

but when I cared enough to record  creek temps and other such nonsense ...they'll run in 68 degree gin clear water if they can get in at the mouths .
I recall one unseasonably warn Fall ...I was  swatting mosquitoes at Girard Park in early  Nov ..but there were   a bazzilion fish there

I went to 12/16/20 today and they all looked like we got rain somewhere. 20 was flowing really well, and so was 16.

Wet some lines today out in the lake.  56* nearshore and 58* 3 miles offshore surface temps.  We marked very few fish and virtually no bait in close including near creek mouths.  Out deep there was lots of troots and smelt everywhere.  We didn't get a bottom temp out deep this time, but we didn't see a thermo on the finder.

If I was a troot, I'd be eatin' large in the cool water.  Perch were out very, very deep also.
