River walleye
Has anyone been fishing for river walleye yet?? I got out twice this week below the highland park dam and got nothing! I cant wait until they pull the docks at the crows nest. I made a run down river to the old lock 1 and my graph was lit up but again no takers. Used small creek chubs on jig heads and some other jigs.

I haven't tried my luck yet. But they should be hitting soon. I always do best on overcast days, was it sunny when you were fishing? Maybe try bigger chubs.

Hey Jeremy I've been out a handfull of times the last 2 weeks and it's been relatively slow. The low water and relatively high water temps aren't helping much. The cooler nights should keep those water temps coming down & the walleyes should become more active. I've fished the dams and have not well there either, so I'm thinking the fish aren't there in any numbers right now; or else they are just very inactive. There is a ton of bait everywhere, just no fish. I've done decent at the mouth of some feeder streams--but mainly just smallies and a handful of runt walleye. The bite has been alittle better in these areas, but certainly nothing to write home about. Live bait has been better than artificials for me, but I have managed some on jigs and soft plastics (mainly 3" gulp Paddletails on a 1/4 jig or similar swimbaits) It shouldn't be long until the good bite picks back up...

I was up at lock 6 about 2 weeks ago and I didn't even get a look on anything... Shiners, Crawlers, Jerk Baits, Rat-l-traps nothing. I'm hoping it turns on soon.

Fished the Mon on Tues. Below one of the locks. Used 4"=6" chubs. NOTHING!!!! Too early I think.

Ouch these reports are horrendous....I planned on heading up lock 3 this Sunday to try a little walleye action and crappie action.....but things don't sound to good. Guess I'll have to go raid the perch up Moraine.

still considering it ....hopefully the current is not to crazy up closer to the dam with the recent rains. If you can sneak your boat back there try that spot I mentioned to you....I got a hunny hole for crappie back there as well.

Fished Lock 3 Sunday 10-21-12 Started out about 8 a.m water temp was 58.2 * Ended up with 4 smallies two tiny, two good sized. 1 catfish, and 3 bluegil which I then used for bait to no avail. NO WALLEYE I picked up very little fish at all depths, nothing over humps/other structure. Screen was reading blank most of the day. The mine area was extremely shallow and looked dead back there. Fished both sides of the Island as well, did not fish south of the hulton bridge. Alot of fisherman out though which was good to see. Anyone else do any good???

went out saturday...water looked perfect...little low, clear, ton of shad and baitfish in the water...bad news...NO FISH...i got a rock bass and a giant drum in maybe 4 hours or so...was using the above mentioned baitfish on jigs and also still fished...no takes other then giant drum and a rock bass...2 other guys fishing and saw the one guy catch a white bass...i think we are close but not there yet....

no i didnt know the guy i was fishing off shore and the guy caught that 34 inch while i was there and i started talking to him cause i asked him how big that was cause it was huge true wall hanger then he said he caught a 31 inch last weekend in the same spot but those were the only two legal ones he caught in a couple weekends

Fished lock 2 one night this weekend for a few hours. Used jigs with plastics and jigs with minnows. Had a few solid hits where the jig came in with only the minnows head on it. I kinda dont think those were walleye though. Talked to a guy there who has been picking up some decent ones at night. Hopefully I'll have time go get out again soon.

We got a 33" and 28" on the mon in the past few weeks as well as 2 in the 27-29" range on the Ohio. Starting to slow down big time though

Fished the Mon on Monday and caught 20 walleye, 4 wipers, and a sauger. Most of the walleyes were in the 14-17 inch range with the biggest going at 27". The biggest wiper was 25". Heading back out today.

I use the Berkely Gulp 4" Minnows in chartreuse on swimming jigs for 'eyes with much success. Before anybody gets on the bandwagon for "berating this guy because he doesn't know what he's talking about", I know it's not Powerbait Minnows and the only reason I mention it here is because I've heard many people refer to them as Powerbait Minnows. Yes, it's expensive, but if one gets it at the Sports Shows, it can be obatined for $11.00 for a 12 oz tub which is far cheaper than what is offered in stores or through catalog orders.
