Mentored Youth Hunting Question

I have an 8 year old son who has the Mentored Youth Hunting Permit.

The way I read the regulations, he is NOT qualified for the any weapons antlerless season Oct. 18-20 using my antlerless tag because he is not a junior license holder.  Is that correct?

I thought I had read somewhere last year that this may change for this year, to include mentored hunters, but it appears the same as previous years.

Yes, the way I read it.....your son can participate in the Youth Doe Hunt (10/18-20).

The Hunters digest has a bullet statement that indicates that "A Mentored Youth is eligible to hunt during any special youth hunting seasons that apply to any eligible Mentored Youth hunt species."

They would qualify for the early Squirrel and Antlerless Season, but would not be eligible for the early Junior Rabbit / Pheasant, ect.

I just learned that an Adult Mentor can now transfer a fall turkey tag to the Mentored Youth.

I missed that line Smokey, but went back and re-read the digest.  So it looks like you are right - thanks for the heads up.  Gonna call the PGC this week to get clarification just to be sure though.

Early Muzzleloader  and the Junior/Senior antlerless October Hunts ===

Based on a recent change in state law and Game Commission regulations, these two antlerless deer seasons now are open to participants of the Mentored Youth Hunting Program, which was created for those under the age of 12.  Mentored youth must obtain a MYHP permit ($2.70) for the current year, and they may receive only one antlerless deer license by transfer during a license year.  Adult mentors may transfer more than one antlerless deer license, but they must be to different mentored youth.  The transfer is valid only if done in the WMU for which the antlerless deer license was issued. (NOTE: A proposed change in regulations to allow for the transfer of one DMAP antlerless deer permit to a mentored youth won’t take effect until the 2013-14 seasons, as the proposal still requires final adoption by the Board.)

Thanks Doc. Is that from the PGC website or a press release?
