Allegheny River at Sharpsburg Launch

Looking for comments on the new launch at Sharpsburg.  Never fished that area via boat and was going to head down next week.  Mayb run down to the point.  Any tips or hazards in that stretch worth noting.  Hope the bass and walleye bite are picking up.  Thanks.

If you pay close attention to the channel markers you should be fine....Gets extremely shallow by the dam. Goes from about 26 feet to 2 or 3 feet in some spots very quickly. The mouth of pine creek is shallow as well but u can get pretty close depending on how deep your boat runs. DO NOT attempt to go in the backchannel behind washingtons landing. youll regret it as its very shallow and full of debris. Mouth of pine creek and the dock area at the crows nest with jigs are all great spots to try. You can attempt the mouth of gerdys run but its also very shallow and hazardous. I usually stay away from it...smells like dookie and is full of sewage blegghhh...

Oh and be careful at the launch...the left hand side has a decent drop. If you look close you can actually see it and maneuver around it...or stick to the right side and you should be good. post a report if you go!

In my position at River Rescue I agree with all that was stated. If you are not familiar with Lock 2 keep well clear of the buoys.  All along that stretch from the launch to the point has been producing smallies and walleye. I would pay particular attention to the area around lock wall one marina. In the channel there is a nice hole (43ft) that always is holding suspended fish. Don't rule out the Alcosan area too.  PM me if you want more info

Thanks for the info.  The drop off at the ramp, is that the left side backing in or left side looking at the river.  Hope the weather holds and will be sure to post if we make it.

Launching a 19 foot deep V, single-axle trailer.  Many many years past since shore fishing around Emsworth and Pine Creek outfall, looking forward to giving it a shot in a boat.

left hand side if you were facing the water looking down the ramp. And definitly dont go in too deep...you should be fine in a boat of your size.

Untangler - I launch a 19 foot deep v single-axle down there all of the time without a problem.  The conrete pads that make up the ramp seperated so there will be a bump when you get half way in, but that ISNT the drop off.   Straight across from the launch there is a drop off and it gets shallow (6-7'). The drop off is near the bouys.  I have always done good there for smallmouth.  Anywhere near the dam, or Pine creek is good for walleye/sauger.

I launch a 27' pontoon there with no problems. If a 19' boat goes over the edge, you are waaayyyy too deep!

Looking forward to it, thanks for the info.  Lakes are way to low these days.

I dont think people are talking about a drop off at the end of the ramp, its the drop off to the side near the dock, just took my 18 footer out of the marina and if you go to close to the dock, one wheel is going to disappear. You could see it pretty good, river was clear on Saturday
