next weekend

gotta love the early steel season I'm bringing up the old lady for her second ever steelhead trip. The only problem is she was kinda spoiled last year by catching three steelhead and her biggest was over the 10lb mark. Now I know it's early and the water is low that's ok to us honestly she's more excited about hitting the avonia tavern for the french onion soup lol honestly.   my only hope is we get some rain not just some lots but even if it's just a trip for a bowl of soup well that's just fine by me.  I enjoy the time spent with her.  OK guys i know i just set myself up for a beating just try to take it easy on me lol

If you are coming up from Johnstown I do hope that you are going to wait a bit-- we have no water. Unless you are going out on a boat. There may be a few, I just got in from Walnut with no luck, but it is hardly worth the trip yet.

I always make my first trip up second week of september it gives me time to walk the low water and check out what the summer time high water changed.  As far as catching fish i makes no difference to me i just enjoy the sights and if I'm that hard up to catch something i could always drown slimies and hook up on some panfish but really it's all about the trip to me not the fish

Actually, next weekend may not be a bad time to be up there ( I make no guarantees though)

As you can see there, a good amount of rain (calling for about an inch and a half) is coming this weekend, and reports indicate some steelhead are in the creeks, and bunches are staging at the mouths looking to run, if all goes as planned, this should be the first major run, and won't even be the best fishing, but a good start.

I just got back in. The creek chubs are up to the gauge hole on Walnut.

I'll agree to that. The weekend of the 22nd looks interesting. Long range weather models show rain possible during the early and midweek. Strong cold front coming during the weekend.
