I stopped by the lake yesterday on my way home from a business trip for about an hour (7:30-8:30).  Got a 15" largemouth and a bluegill.  Couldn't take the misquitos and didn't really have much faith in the night turning things on much more.  The baitfish were pretty active in the evening, but not much harrassing them.  I usually use the steelhead run as a gauge for Arthur (and any local waters).  When you hear things are starting up there, it is about the same time the fish make their Fall migrations in Arthur too.  I'm sure those that know the walleye seasonal patters will find them biting.  I haven't figured that out myself though.  My guess is, they are still as deep as the oxygen will let them, until things cool off.

Fished the last two Sundays and have done well.
4 stripers 4 cats 1 walleye two Sundays ago and 4 stripers this past Sunday. The stripers are smashing into bait balls. find the bait and throw something into them. Let your bait fall and hang on...lol My bait of choice is a fat crawler with med. split shot. The cats are deep as was the wally. The bass seem to be moving around alot.
Keep your eyes open for splashing on the surface. Good luck.

Finally was able to get out and hit up the lake for a few hours on sunday 9-30-12 fished 10-2:30 pm

I launched at bear run (very very shallow) would not reccomend for any type of deep v boat) I know the lake is low right now but even when it's at normal levels that launch is still low, looks like it could use a good dredging as well.

Anyhow, I focused my attention on that area and began trolling right away. 5 mins in 12 ft of water the rigger popped at 11ft and got my first fish, a smaller wiper. made a second pass through and the rigger popped again and got a better sized wiper. Overall Finished with 3 wipers a catfish and a perch.

Not a bad day on the lake. Water temp was 64-65 degrees.

Congrats, were you using downriggers?  I was debating Arthur this weekend, but my last trip was more hiding from storms than fishing...  So, I opted for Erie trib madness on Saturday instead.  Sunday's forecast looked like more of the same of my last trip.  Hopefully you avoided any nasty stuff.

By Bear Run, you mean the launch near the end of the 422 Bridge, in the "main lake", or do you mean the launch near Bear Run Campground?  I know the one by the campground is meant more for canoes & smaller boats.

Yes I launched down at the bear run campground, I have a small shallow v 14ft boat so it's normally no problem for me. I didn't know that it was meant for canoes and yaks....

Yes, as funny as it sounds to have riggers on Arthur I always use my riggers on Arthur with success, allows me to get that plug or harness right where I want it. I actually lucked out with the weather I looked at the radar and there was a system moving right through warrendale but looked clear up on the lake so I took a chance and it worked out. Beautiful day!

I saw a guy using down riggers either earlier this year or last year.  I actually have two, but have never used them (came with my boat).  I always thought about it.  I'd have to rewire, since they are wired to my starting battery, which I don't have.

I can't say that the launch you were at, actually called Porter's Cove, is "for kayaks and canoes".  That is something the Bear Run Campground office told me when I stayed there and questioned the signs in the area about Bear Run Campground sponsoring the launch or whatever the sign says.  Not sure if they "made it" since it is state park and all.

BTW, the launch at the end of 422 (past the park office), is called Bear Run.

Cool didn't know that..I typicallyl use the campground one when I don't use live bait, which is typically what I do...but if I'm buying fatties i'll use the McDaniels launch, which could use some work as well.  But you should definitely try the riggers sometimes definitely a plus in the 25-30ft areas of the lake that are hard to reach.

I think that I'll give it a shot.  I'm planning on doing a major boat overhaul this Winter.  Rewiring is part of it.  I'll have to get the downriggers ready as well.

I wonder if that was you that I saw, thinking it was last year.  It was a smaller boat with downriggers.  They were hooking up a good bit too, which had me thinking last year to bust mine out.

I have a small  navy blue 14ft shallow v with a 9.9 2 down riggers 1 off the back 1 off the side. bright blue carpet interior. It's not much but it floats and get's the job done! HAHA.  Prob was me I used to fish moraine just about every weekend. Electric riggers are even nicer...it's worth a shot just because you know exactly where your bait is and can adjust to where the fish are stacking.

Accountant.. I have caught bass pretty regularly up until december with live bait when I target them....the fishing should pick up with the lower water temps. I'll be back on Arthur this Saturday targeting EYES but if it gets slow i'll try for some largemouth.

Crappiefisher.....please send help. We're still out here and down to 2 pringles and a half sip of Mountain Dew. Worst of all....we're out of bait.If your boy is still trapping let me know. My friend has a beaver and muskrat problem. It's a private spot so should be worth his while.

You just made me choke on my smoke!!!! Left message on your cell, thought maybe you lost cell service when I didn't hear back from you. Ended up going to that private lake over in Hooker with a buddy.

I'll ask Timmy if he is going to this season or not. He has been busy with his lure company.       When you r done with the Dew bottle you can always try this......

Ended up going to that private lake with a Hooker...  Is what I read skimming through this.  Sounds like more fun this way too...

Rippinlip - Your distress call message was some funny stuff.

Maybe I should have hit Artie instead of Erie this past weekend, but smoked steelhead is some pretty good stuff.  Not sure if as good as panfish fry though.  Got to love Fall, so many options for good fishing.  Toss in the good hunting (for the hunters) thins the crowds (for the anglers), warm enough outside but not uncomfortably hot, changing colors, and my work slowing down enough to enjoy a bit, to name a few.  Best time of the year.  Only wish the weekends were a few days longer...

Was at Arthur yeaterday to un-dock the boat at the marina. It was a great day weather wise. Good views with the trees changing. The neighbor captained the vessel while I scrubbed off a years worth of dirt in preparation of putting the boat away for winter. We decided to troll some plugs while I worked. We kept an eye on the fishfinder. Water 62 degrees.Very few fish shallow and a lot relating to deep water humps. A few panfish schools in close proximity to shoreline structure in about 8 to 10 feet of water.Bill got a grab on his plug had it on for a hot second and the line was bit off.No steel leader....Musky?Made a beeline for the dock to finish up prepping the boat. The weeds are starting to die down.We decided we would make a few more trips if the weather holds up. Indian Summer? Hope so.To explain the phone call to Crappiefisher for help....a few weeks ago we went out and headed towards the dam end to fish and as soon as we got there, sputtered .....out of gas! First time for me.Called Crappiefisher for help....no good...his boat was out of the water in preparation for waterfowl season. He said he would call me back with a number of another friend. For some reason...bad rection never got it.Called the marina....no one answered....closed. Called the park office and the girl working brought us out a gallon of gas.

Did decent on Saturday despite the cold front that came through, perch were active a bit about 15 keepers and a bunch of smaller ones on fatties. Also hooked 2 large mouth decent size and a crappie
    water temp was 63 degrees
most of the action was on live bait.

I made it out on Thursday after a business meeting.  I thought that I posted a report, but guess it was just a PM to Crappy!  Oh well, not really much to report.  No perch or crappie for me, guessing the 75 and sunny had them hiding?  I did get a 16" large mouth, a channel cat that I didn't measure, but a few inches larger than the LM, a small wiper (12" range) and a bunch of gills.  I was using gulp minnows, probably should have grabbed some live ones.  Hoping to get out again at some point before too cold.  I've got to get my cousin in-law out on the boat before it is winterized, been talking fishing with him for the past two years, so need to make it happen.

I fished down by the dam and there was a TON of fish laying on the bottom...couldn't get them to hit any harnesses or plugs trolling....I'm gonna have to try out those gulp minnows everyone is raving about to see if they'll do the trick. I've heard a lot of good things from people on this board about gulp.

There's a good chance that most of the fish you marked were channel cats....that area is polluted with them.
