Canoeing for steelhead?

Canoeing for steelhead?

ive seen people in float tubes fishing the mouth of trout run but has anybody ever did this from a canoe. i understand that the lake would have to be flat or with very little waves . if we were to do this we would leave plenty of room for the people wading the shore. just wondering if its ever been done,  or what u guys think?

    Yep. Watch out for steelhead jumping into your canoe....

    Be sure you know how to duck a flying Little Cleo!  I've seen yakkers do it so why not a canoe?

    Yea, That may have been my favorite moment from last years steelhead season.  I always tell people that story and I doubt they believe me lol

    no need to duck flying cleos if we decide on doing we would leave the shore anglers plenty of room its was just a question anyways, i think the idea of being just off shore catching big lake run rainbows would be pretty darn kool

    Just an fyi, the wave action in Erie is pretty high that time of the year. Kayaks are more for the rougher water than canoes. I would use a canoe that is made for it like a wide base sports pal canoe or something like it. Make sure you wear your life preservers and have experience with this type of water.

    I always seem to take the yak out once or twice a year in misery and the marina and have a blast throwing spoons or just jigging. You can have a field day catching steeliness and crappies, see some great views, and stray from crowds. Just don't attempt with easy winds they'll push you too much

    Yeah i was there that day.  It jumped, hit the side of the canoe, then seconds later, jumped right in!  Great moment!  And the fish wuz hittin too!
