Plusses for sit on tops :

    - easy on , easy off
    - everything can be put in arms reach if you like.
    - never have to empty water out of it
    - nothing will roll or get pushed forward or backwards where you wont be able to reach it.
    - you can even sit sideways and hang your feet over the edge and still be able to comfortably fish from it.
    - you sit higher in the water ( bout 5-8 inches )
    - I believe there is more room for more gear IMO
    - it will NEVER sink ( Most have blown in expandable floating foam inside)

    Minuses :
    - you will get wet ( that dont bother me )
    - things will fall overboard more easily ( if your not careful )
    - It will be heavier to lift and load ( mine weighs 70-72 lbs ) most range from 62 to 90 lbs.

There may be more to add in either category. Someone will chime in with more info Im sure.

I have never fished from a sit on-top kayak, but I own a sit-in kayak and fish from it often.  Things I like about the sit-in that I think would be disadvantages with the sit-on:
    - I stay drier...this isn't such a big deal in the middle of the summer, but if you like to fish in fall and early spring when water and air is cooler, you would probably prefer to stay as dry as possible.
-Weight...the sit-on kayaks are a good bit heavier.  I haul my kayak on the roof of my SUV and I'm usually alone, that extra 20-30 pounds of weight can make a difference.

Seems like the sit-on kayaks would offer more space for easily accessible gear.  Since I've begun fishing from a kayak, I've learned to go a little lighter on the gear and have been just as successful.

    Just one man's opinion...

Thanks all I will check back often. Anyone float tubing the shore line for steelhead?? Any predictions of the first stream catch steelhead, I assume some will be poking in at nite and out early morning any day, can’t wait for the first catch.

If I fish for slimmers this early in the season it is from 12:00am to 8:00am. after that they gone. usually do this once and I wait for better times. just a night of wetting a line and drinking beer and if I happen to get one on you just hold on and hope she stays buttoned up :D

Take a look at the Future Beach Angler 144.  They sell at Dunhams in Cranberry for $449 then you get the 20% coupon.  All my buddys have sit ins and they really like mine.

I bought a Future Beach Angler earlier this summer and I love it.  Lots of room, fairly stable, and you cant beat the price.  My opinion, sit on tops are more comfortable, more spacious, and if you get hot you just turn to the side and put your feet in.  Thats always a plus on a hot day

Unless you're constantly fishing low water creeks, consider the Hobie pedal models.  Great boats to fish from.  I've used my Hobie Outback in fresh and saltwater and love it.  I also have a sit in Prijon and enjoy paddling it but fishing from it if less easy than in the They are a bit heavy and awkward to handle out of water but in the water they're easy to handle.
