Fishing Erie From Shore

Just introduced to this forum and I am impressed, there is some great info.  I am going to be in Erie either the first or second weekend in August for a family weekend.  I am not looking for anyone's secret spots, but where should I look to fish for bass for a few hours on Sunday morning ?  I will be staying at the Hampton Inn, so the closer to the hotel the better better.  I would like to start at daybreak and be done by 0900.  Hoping to just bring a few lures in a vest and take the Curado/Avid for a walk.  I am unfamiliar with Erie, from the PIT Airport area.  If anyone can point me in the right direction, thank you.

Thanks BH,

Any chance you can narrow that down a little bit.  Near any beach, on the point near the boat launch, the map says weeds.  Are those like possible froggin' weeds?  Is that water deep?  Or is it shallow buzzbait, Pop-R territory?

Thanks,

Mike

Find the weeds and poppers and buzzbaits will smash the ship out of em this time of year. Start at the head of the bay. Marina bay is always good ( that's where the boat launch is ). Misery bay can also produce good fish ( thats where Perrys monument is ).

End of the north peir will usually get you something. Maybe not what you want, but something depending upon what you're using.

Just read the artical and Karl is A+ on! I've fished with him out there and it was great! I would however highlight one of his points. When In Thompson bay, go very, very slow when wading! Twice I almost went under! Both times I felt the sand starting to give and was lucky to get back in time. Be careful there and the fishing is GREAT! I want to do it on the boat, just haven't. Also, if you want a guide for the bay, shore/wading, give Karl a call. He helped me learn a ton about it and how to fish some of it.

While my kids were here in June, we spent a lot of time on the Waterworks docks, and got a few nice smallmouths there. Nothing record-breaking, but enough to keep us going back. Plus the baby sunfush are fun to catch for the kids to feel like they are doing a good job and all. Hehe. Misery Bay is sorta weedy, but I got my first smallmouth ever there, a cute 17incher. If you never forget your firsts, then I'll always love Misery Bay for that.
