mr.crappie

Not trying to hi-jack your thread, but it reminded me of one of the dangers of wearing chest waders without a shirt on these hot days. My son & I were fishing the Yough at West Newton & he started to take his shirt off when I advised him not to do so. Well you know how that ended,he took it off, was fishing for a while, when he reached into the pocket that was on the inside chest area for his maggots that was in the original pack from the bait shop. Well the lid popped off & spilled in side of the waders & since he had a hairy chest they were all over him. I don't think he even touched the water on his way out to yank those waders off & get them off of him. He spent the rest of the afternoon scratching & looking at his chest to see if they were all off. I was laughing so hard that I was glad that I was wet wadeing.   sam

ROTFL!!

When shopping for waders, visit places that let you try them on. Also, some of the better online sources and catalogs are including measurement guides that include chest and shoulders.

I've never been to the FishUSA HQ in Erie, but might let you try on some models?  If you are in the area, drop them a line or call.  They are very helpful if you call for orders.  Prices and delivery are just as good or better than any of the national chains.  And provide this site for use losers to yap at each other!

Water vapor is a smaller molecule than water, so they say.  I have never done the experiment myself.  It is the science behind the patented gore-Tex.  There are many companies that make a similiar fabric.  I have the same problem at 5'8" and 270.  the best way to go is with a bootfoot wader and wading boots.  You can get more sizes in this manner.  Check Cabelas, they have a good selection.

Wish I had the time. I have a 1.5hr drive to work each way and I have 4 little ones at home (ages 6,5,4,3) and a wife with medical problems. When I do get some time it's either go to the gym or fish. Guess which one I pick.

I'm from New Bethlehem. If you want to go out sometime, let me know. I'm always up for making new friends! A good fishing buddy is priceless.

One more "tale to tell": I am a sporadic visitor to Lock 3 on the Allegheny. I usually wet wade. Last week I took my dog so she could have a little swim. She wound up in the hospital 4 days later with a hemoraged small intestine! Vet believes Salmonella. Don't know if the river was to blame, but it's another story along those lines.

They allow water vapor out, but don't let water molecules into the wader.

Now I realize you aren't the patent holder, and are probably not a scientist....
But how in hell can a wader keep water out and not let it in?

Not being smart here, I'm serious.

Goretex works.
