i am almost sure that it has to be coast guard approved.  I would check to make sure.  Best thing to do is call your local fish commish and ask that way you get it from the one with the power lol

Put a reg. suit on her and buy the infant/toddler CG approved life vest at wally world for $10.  The bathing suit is not legal and if she fell in, would do her no good.  The toddler life vests have an extra flotation flap on the back that will keep their heads above water if they fall in and you can't get to them quickly.

I may even have one at home you can have if you are close to Irwin.  I sold some of my kids old life vests at a yard sale earlier this year but I think I have some of the smaller ones.   I'll have to check.

Boats 20 ft and under: all children 12 or 11 and under must have one on when underway. I've had my son out since he was 6 months old. He is 19 months now and very comfortable with the vest on, but we have to keep him cool because its like wearing a jacket in the 80 and 90 degree heat.

Where are you located - I think I have one that you can have.  I'm on the West side of Pittsburgh.

Pack a box of toys.  It should buy you some extra time.  If you're lucky, you might even be able to fish...

Word of advice, don't force the issue.  If she is getting bored, one more cast isn't a good idea.  I learned that the hard way.  It took me a good few months to convince my daughter that fishing isn't as boring as Home Depot...

Ha, Pork is spot on.  It takes me longer to get the boat ready than the time they actually spend fishing.  The rest of the time is eating, playing or just putting around.

Chocoloate milk boxes, grapes, cheezits, all bought me some extra time when they were younger. But the best distraction was a bucket of minnows.  When crappie fiishing esp., buy an extra dozen just for the kiddos to mess around with (and an extra minnow bucket).  Once you start getting fish in the livewell, they start to play around with them.  At least with my kids, after they got bored after an hr or two, that would usually get me another hour....

They are starting to enjoy just being out there now and seeing everything there is, even when the fish aren't biting fast and furious.

    +1 on the minnows.

FYI - if keeping fish on ice, be very careful they don't go and put a piece in their mouth...  My boy did this a few months ago with some crappie in the cooler.  Chewed on some ice, and ended up throwing up all night long.  He was fine the next day, but put a hamper on our vacation.

Dog food, bread or crackers keeps them busy feeding the ducks or carp.
