6/30/12 fishing report Lake Erie

Sorry I decided to take a walleye trip to Erie but had trouble to decide what launch to go out of. Finally we decided to go out of Geneva on the Lake. Should have went out of Ashtabula because that is were i ended up at. Reports on the lake was that eyes were being caught 70ft of water about 12 miles out. Thunderstorms were making my run very uncomfortable for the 11 mile run. But as luck would have it the storms never hit us but the wind did. Went from 2 to 3s to 3 to 5s. We decided to troll with the waves to the east until we got good marks which never happened. Finally I decided to put out my program and to my amazement we hooked up quick with a 5lb eye off of orange crush RR on lead core 5 colors back. A few minutes later a 6lb eye on the same. Then the downriggers started picking up eyes 40 ft down with double willow leafs green. The next was the dipsey divers at 110 back with purple willow leafs. We continued to pick at them for the next few hours without ever seeing any marks on the sonar to get excited about and yes we did catch sheephead and white bass but it was not that bad. When we pulled up we had 16a nice eyes in the boat. The biggest was 27 in and 7 lb. The waves were back to 2 to 3s, The distance to the launch was 14.5 miles into the waves it took an hour. I will be heading out of Coneaut ohio and walnut creek. I herd good reports. If the lakes bad I'll be at pyme. Good luck

Nice report!  Haven't been out on the big lake at all this year unfortunately.  Thinking of going next week though mainly after perch and whatever else decides to bite. Maybe some walleye too. I have no idea why people get upset when they see sheephead, white bass, white perch, etc. at the end of their lines.  Hey, they're fish! and fish a fun to catch!  I actually enjoy drum more than perch, they always put up a great fight, and fight better than an eye of the same size imo.

Yeah that's what I heard too.  Living in Ohio(only like 10min from the border), Conneaut and Ash are the closest access points. My last perch trip last year was in Conny and did pretty good. Have relatives that have a boat out in Rocky River so might head out that way instead, not sure.

The reason i post here is it is a ten times better forum to get and give information. If you have read the lake erie forums you would see that the information flow is very limited and besides i am helping my fellow local fisherman and i dont look at every post just the ones that i am interested in or have info to give on a question. Besides it does say Lake Erie and not pyme. You have a great day

Lets play nice guys. Like I tell my Soldiers I dont do drama. Bottom line on all this. When I go fishing no matter where. I am going to tell you guys what happened. I dont hold back because someone that fishes the same areas I do would like to catch fish also and if I can help you got it. The eye fishing has been slow on pyme from what I have seen on the posts lately and the eye fishing on Erie is heating up. I see alot of boats out there on the smaller lakes with the ability to fish the big lake using some common sense. Everything i learned catching eyes on the big lake came from time on the water. I never got help from other big water boats because they are afraid you are going to catch more than them. Like I said before I will catch fish without being disrespectful to my fellow anglers. I am having one of my best years for eyes so far i am up over 300 this year and I hope to break 500 by year end and no I dont keep them all. I like the chase and a few meals. Anybody has any questions please send me a text and I will tell you all I know. I love when other anglers catch fish after using some of my ideas and places. As you can see I go where the fish are. SLABDADDY when are you able to go out fishing with me? Looking forward to it and I know you are reading this. Good luck fishing and I am planning on going out again on Thursday.
