Friends First Muskey

I got out on Crooked Creek with a couple of friends last wednesday to fish for Crappie, Bass, and pretty much whatever was biting.
We were fishing a deeper section  and not really doing much so my friend Luke decided to try a small jig for Crappie he tied on a 2 inch chartruise split tail jig with a white head and started working it near the bottom. Pretty soon I heard him say "AWWW I'm stuck."  he then started trying to jerk his jig free from whatever he was stuck on. That's when his rod bent double and his reel started sceaming. he looked at me withthis shocked look and said "I'm not stuck, this is a fish!"
It took 15 minutes for him to bring that fish in on a light action rod with 8lb test. Eventually we realized that the fish had wrapped the line around the anchor rope. It took all three of us to get the fish in the net. I had to pull up the anchor rope while Luke kept tension on the fish/line and Eric netted him. When we got him in the boat we saw that the small jig was right in the corner of his jaw. It was a miracle that we didn't loose him, but we got him in the boat, took some measurements and  snapped some pics and then let him go unharmed.  The fish was 33.5 inches long. I have no clue as to the weight, I'm guessing aroung 16-17 pounds.
Anyway it was a great experience and totally made my buddy's day. Fun way to catch your first Muskey.

Nice fish fellas!  That looks like a tiger musky.  They are beautifully marked fish.  The bright sun hitting your fish really shows it.  You guys did the right thing for turning it loose because the minumum length for musky is now 40".  Here's a link for some stocking info on crooked creek lake.

Thanks for sharing and hope you can catch (and consider releasing) a bigger one!
