Unknown Panfish

I have been catching panfish this year that I have never seen before. They are shaped more like a bass. They have mouths that are way bigger than any bluegill or sunfish but they have blueish spots or lines down their sides. They also have shorter stockier tails. Anyone have any idea what they are? PA Fish Comm. website shows what they call green sunfish that look similar but without the color. They also say that they hybridize with other panfish. Anyone else been catching these?

Sounds like a few fish  I caught out of pymy a few years back.  Best ID I could come up with was a warmouth.

Green sunfish, or hybrid. I always get green sunfish near dense cover, like big rocks at a dam. They have much bigger mouths and bright blue streaks on their heads. At least I'm pretty sure they're green sunfish.

Sounds like a green sunfish or hybrid to me...a little blurry

Here's a rock bass for comparison:

*EDITED* ~ Thought it was a warmouth, but BogeyJoker called me on it....Rock bass for sure.
6 anal fins & lacking the stripes behind the eye that warmouth have.
    Thanks Bogey.

The picture of the fish laying in your hand is what I'm talking about. Some have been smaller like that but some have been decent sized. The picture on the PFBC website shows green sunfish having NO blue on them, thats why I was wondering. I am familiar with rock bass because I used to catch a ton of them in Pigeon creek near Monongahaela. Must be a green sunfish hybrid. You're right, I was catching these on some rocks. Thanks.

War mouths were my first thought. They were once rare, but now are becoming more popular. Some lakes are loaded with them.

Both green sunfish and warmouths are pretty common on my local waters.  Rock bass though seem to be very rare where I fish, have only caught maybe 3 in the last 3 years.

    Here's some pics...

Green Sunfish(only green sunfish pic I have, thought I had more)

    Warmouths

A lot of people tend to get confused with green sunfish, warmouths, and rock bass.  For the most part rock bass don't even live in the same places as greens and warmouths.  All 3 are verry easy to tell apart though, and that blue and orange on greens give it away.

Just last week I was fishin a small river and this one guy was catching a bunch of fish(mostly green sunfish, but also one warmouth I think) and he was calling them all rock bass lol.  I have never caught a rock bass there and their coloration and markings are totally different than green sunfish and warmouths.
