Last time I fished the river in Jamestown was in the middle of May.  Got one eye, 2 smallmouths, and a crappie.  It's real easy to catch a million small gills, crappie, and perch there but I was after the big guys.

I fished the river in Sharpsville by the bridge last weekend and caught a bunch of bass as usual, a few small crappie, and lost a trout at my feet.

Last time I was below the dam in Sharpsville I only got one white bass, a carp, and 3 hybrids.  Nothin big though.

Fished the river yesterday afternoon by the bridge fly fishing.  Did real good with smallmouth bass and 1 crappie.

Fished it today and they raised the water a bit.  The bass shut down, only had 2 on but they were nice around 16in. or so.  Caught one nice trout by the bridge.  Also right below the dam caught 4 nice hybrids and 1 white bass. Those hybrids are a blast!  The past 3 times I was there I caught a few, and they are awesome fighters! Back farther downstream I ended up getting 2 carp(one on the fly!) and 2 catfish.

Pics coming once I get them on my computer......

CU, did you put in by the bridge w/ canoes Sat. afternoon?  If so I'm pretty sure I saw you.

The smallie fishing was MUCH bettter Saturday then it was Sunday.  They completely shut down.  I fished below the dam a handful of times this year with only 1 eye to show, but did pretty well with trout, white bass, and hybrids below the dam and a bunch of smallies and such downstream.

yeah, just one canoe, two guys aroun 430pm
i caught abt 50 or more keeper sized eyes last spring and not a one this spring
i also fished about 20 more times last spring

just wondering if the warm winter led to decreased gizzard shad mortality and a high abundance this year.
all those eyes could be full of shad and not very hungry

Yeah, my brother and I walked past you guys when we were heading out.

I had one really good day last spring for eyes, caught around 30, mostly eyes but some white bass in the mix.  Every other cast produced a fish.  Caught an eye or two just about every other time I was there also.  Only 1 this year though.  Really have to work for them I guess.

Fished the Shenango in Sharpsville again today.  Right below the dam I got a bunch of white bass, a couple crappie, a nice smallmouth around 16in, a decent walleye, and only 2 smaller hybrids, couldn't get into the bigger ones this time.

Farther downstream got into a couple smallies, more than last time, but still not as many as I usually get.  I think the sudden rise and decrease in water level has something to do with it.  Also got four nice hard fighting trout.

3 crappie, 1 white bass, 2 smallmouths, and the trout were caught fly fishing with woolly buggers and everything else caught on live minnows.

Only saw like 3 other fish caught while I was there.  2 were cats and I think one was a white bass from what I could tell...

Timachro, I've been camping there since the campground opened and usually do pretty good behind the campground. I would definitely suggest going. If you have any questions you can PM me or just ask on here. I'll be happy to answer them.

Which lures would you suggest?  I was thinking maybe tubes and Rapalas. Sound about right?

I personally don't use tubes much but definately Rapalas.  Ive found that bright colors work better than natural.

Walleye action was good but has slowed with low water conditions.

    This is good water flow.

Lots of these in the river now.

With minnows or shiners is it best to fish them under a slip float or right off the bottom
